Were you the one who made a true crime Ed Gein topic like a week ago? I participated in that. Anyway no I don't do Netflix.

Big fan of stuff about people like that though and I'm from an area where two of the most famous killers have lived and honestly Gein isn't THAT far to a state just north of me. Must be something about this boring farming areas that turn people.

Also the local slaughterhouse would limit time people could be killing pigs because they know it can fuck people up. I found it interesting Gein's dad used to butcher pigs in the doorframe and make Ed change out the blood buckets and made fun of him for being weak. He then would later butcher humans in that same doorframe.

So not going to watch but would probably enjoy it, though I don't care for dramatizations of stories. I prefer straight documentaries that are just factual, has interviews with police, other people, and the killer themselves when footage is available. I find it fascinating.

I also enjoy books about stuff somewhat relating to this. Like one of the better books I ever read on the subject was the Mindhunter book by John Douglas about starting the behavioral science unit at Quantico Virginia for the FBI. Was kind of amazing how those profilers could look at the evidence and tell you what kind of job the person had, how they lived and dressed, whether they knew the victim, whether they lived close or not and all kinds of stuff. Awesome book and discusses some pretty high profile cases.

Remember those Time-Life book series where they made hardbound volumes? The Enchanted World, Mysteries of the Unknown, all those?

Couple of my friends and I were at a bookstore once that had the True Crime series on clearance, and we each bought the one which appealed most to us. My buddy's wife joked it was an insight into our psychology: I got the one about mass murderers, my buddy got the one about serial killers, and his wife grabbed the one about assassinations.

This. I also watched the 2012 Hitchcock biopic which had bits on Ed Gein, plus I've seen all the horror movies that are inspired by what he did, so I'm all Ed Gein'd out.

That's another thing about it. I doubt Ed was seeking fame or infamy when he did what he did, because he really was a proper nutcase, but some of the other killers definitely do/did want to be famous, and movies like that reward them and do a disservice to the victims.

I'm okay with movies about a fictional bogeyman like Hannibal Lecter, not so much with ones about Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy.

okay, that finale... wtf.

we get some low value Mindhunter shit along with some weird fever dream type sequences glorifying this man. like we dont need to hear other serial killers talking about how they were inspired by this man. smh

show was a huge mess overall with all those sequences with nazis, Alfred Hitchcock and Texas Chainsaw Massacre shuffled in between but that finale was easily the worst episode!

Gein and the Menendez brothers were only convicted of killing two people. Borden was most likely innocent.

Not really a fan of this fictionalized stuff. You get the worst of both worlds.

but what is really throwing me off is in the main scenes Ed is close to 40, his love interest/gitlfriend looks 18 and like Regina George from mean girls, like shed be the hottest girl in school. And theyre acting like teenagers, its really throwing me off

i suspected that whole low-value Mindhunter segment where he helps catch Ted Bundy seemed bullshit... lol

It wasn't as good as the other ones. I get that they were trying to show how Ed Gein lives on in popular culture but it just comes across as disjoined and kind of out place.

When I was a kid I vaguely thought Aunt Jackie was cute. Years and years later that doesn't mean I want to see her B and B.

I said I wasn't going to watch it but did see it the other day when a relative had it on. What struck me was when Ed's mother had him standing there naked while she was telling him off and he was looking all ripped (as you would expect Charlie Hunnam to look) but the real Ed Gein was scrawny. The cops didn't think him capable of moving all those bodies around because he was so tiny, but if he'd had Hunnam's body, they wouldn't have had any doubts, lol.

Seems that was another area where they took liberties, I guess because they wanted to make him creepier. The real Ed was a bit quiet, but I don't hear anything remarkable about his voice... certainly not the crazed cartoon sound they give him in the show. He sounds like a regular farmer.
