I would've really liked a whole AC game taking place in modern day and finally ending Abstergo and then all other games could fully be in the past but i know Ubi will never do that, ever since i've heard of this remake 3+ years ago i've been asking myself why? Black Flag does not need a remake specially so soon, it says that they'll be expanding Mary's role in this, maybe that's what we'll get instead of the "Working for Ubisoft" sections. --- . ... SteveRogers33 posted... The modern day story is what kept me hooked on the series, until 3. After 3 it was clear they had no idea where to goA good portion of that is because the "father" of the series left during the development of Brotherhood. Then he went to THQ to start a new historical franchise, THQ went under and Ubi bought his studio... and fired him again. He went on to create the game Ancestors: A Humankind Odyssey which is an odd title about our evolutionary ancestors survival. LightSnake posted... I mean, did anyone like....love the modern sessions?I actually liked the ideas of the content in the RPG trilogy more than the execution, to be honest. There's a lot of interesting concepts and while I haven't finished all the DLC for Valhalla, it's probably the most lore-heavy of all of the games up to that point, and does a lot to tie together the existing lore while spot-welding its own new stuff on. Shadows didn't have any modern day outside of stuff about the Animus Hub and some anomalies with it, but with the next title they're supposed to be building more up to something else within the modern day. --- Behold the angry wizard putt-putt-putting away. ... AceMos posted... havent fans always hated the modern day stuffConsidering it was the entire justification for exploring historical periods, I don't know how someone would be a fan and hate them pre-AC3, before Ubisoft threw their hands up and destroyed the entire modern storyline for no fucking reason and made sure nothing would ever go anywhere with it. [LFAQs-redacted-quote] Yes. There's been previous mainline games that have had no modern outside-the-Animus gameplay, only cutscenes or not even that, little brief interludes. AC1, 2, Brotherhood and 3 all had significant story work in present day material. Revelations was the first one that didn't, but it did feature stuff that wasn't in the historical setting. Ironically, for a game called Revelations, it didn't really have any... except in the DLC. Black Flag had first person segments that tied into what the previous games were building up to, as well as direct links to characters involved in the in-Animus story. Rogue has the same first person gameplay as Black Flag, but with a different player character. Unity is the first to have no present day gameplay, only cutscenes and video segments. Syndicate is the same way, no present day gameplay. Origins introduces us to a new present day player character named Layla Hassan, and actually ties into the live action movie that they did with Michael Fassbender. Her story continues in Odyssey and ends in Valhalla, which actually There's no present day gameplay in Mirage, but the character you play is one introduced in the in-Animus gameplay in Valhalla. There's no present day gameplay in Shadows, but there's some in-Animus content with "anomalies" happening and the player is talked to by some entity about the new Animus Hub stuff as well as the "anomalies." --- Behold the angry wizard putt-putt-putting away. ... Hayame_Zero posted... It's genuinely one of the most damaging narrative fumbles in a gaming franchise I've ever seen. The games were hit-and-miss since then, but the modern day aspect was damaged beyond repair. Its because Ubisoft course corrects way too far in the other direction when they have complaints. Games were getting stale, lets strip everything and add rpg mechanics. Odyssey and Valhalla had too much Isu stuff, shadows has none.
