Weren't bullets able to easily kill xenomorphs?

Surprised this one didn't get shredded by them

I think the Marines in Aliens were using explosive rounds which did tear them up pretty good.

Not sure how good standard ammunition is against them.

As we saw with Vasquez, it's effective as extreme close range if you dome one of them. They were also mainly getting merked by the smart guns in the first encounter. I'd assume standard ammo would eventually kill them if you can get enough rounds in them, but probably difficult to do since they are so agile.

Oh, my one major issue with the episode was the pi thing. Boy was saying that any advanced enough species would know the number. Thats all well and good, but knowing the number and recognizing how we write numbers are two different things. Now theres ways the eyeball alien could have learned about our number system while by watching us while in captivity, but Boy was acting like it was a given that if it was intelligent it would just recognize our numbers.

I think the current assumption is that it gains knowledge from it's hosts, and retains it. So, since it had a previous human host, it could theoretically read English or know numbers.

Though, how Boy had that knowledge is a different issue. I think it fits that he's just too dumb to realize maybe an alien wouldn't know how to read the numbers.

Eyeball has been in human hosts before. When it parasites into something, it has to hijack the brain to gain control. It probably gains some of the knowledge stored in the brains it's hijacking which allows it to gain some understanding of our language.

My problem isnt with it knowing, my problem is with Boy taking it as a given that it would know.

Yeah, came off a bit "How do we translate that this is a super intelligent species" to me. Kind of silly, but whatevs.

He seemed to be having a stab in the dark with it because he was actually surprised when the Sheep-Eye answered him.

Its kind of a running theme that the smart kid is actually a pretty big dumbass.

This is TV short-hand. Like yes, they could have included a bunch if extra dialog to establish how the eye knew Arabic numerals but to your average viewer that shit comes off as clunky and hurts the overall scene pacing.

Could've been reworked slightly. He could've asked if it understood what he was saying, and got a response. Then scribbled Pi on his hand and ask if it knows what that is. Followed by it stomping the next 2 digits and him getting all excited. Then he'd just have to tell what's his face what it means to know Pi. The rest would play out the same.

It'd leave the audience with the same questions, of how it can read. But it would leave Boy looking a bit smarter by checking it's understanding first instead of assuming it knows how to read. I don't think that would be clunky or much longer of a scene than what we got.
