For some reason I don't think I've ever seen real footage of this game. I've only seen some cutscenes, which made me wonder if the game was nothing but cutscenes meant to play on a PS3 demo in a store.

Right now, the votes are 10 votes of Yes, Indifferent, and No each (seen from the screenshot below). That's as split as you can get.

I played it for the first time recently. What gameplay there is present is good, but it feels like most of the game is cut scenes with actual gameplay sprinkled in. Only good thing I have to say is I liked it more than MGS2.

I voted "No" at any rate. It felt like the game would have been better off as a movie or TV show.

Its phenomenal. I dont like the segmented levels compared to the open world of mgs and mgs2. But its so much fun to mess around with. I repurchased a ps3 just to play this again.

No. It's a bloated mess of a game, even by Kojima's standards. Complete mess of a plot aside, which utterly dominates the "playtime," there's really not that much to do when the game even lets you play. I mainly remember sneaking my way from point A to point B in a bunch of warzones that I'd never revisit or explore, going undetected while carrying a thousand pounds of weapons and gadgets that I never used because all I needed was my silent tranquilizer pistol. Some cool setpieces, but frankly I didn't find most of them to be all that, and cohesion is typically awful.

It's the last truly great MGS game imo, but its not as good as the first three.

Otacon has always had cringey dialogue, but he is a self-professed weeb, so that is kinda the point. I do find him irritating, but hey, at least he isn't his dad.

My thoughts on Naomi are neutral. Biggest thing is she never learned the truth of her so called "brother" which led to some unnecessary consequences.

And Meryl suffers from how Kojima doesn't treat woman well. The twist of who her father was...well, caught me off guard. Just damn.

I don't mind the weeb stuff, as having interests unrelated to the story can help flesh characters out.

I just think it's dumb how he has some weird romantic/sexual drama going on in each game he's a part of; of how it gets a lot of focus and ends in tragedy because...? it adds nothing good to the story.

for Naomi, once you find out about her secret in the first game, she's mostly whiny and accusatory throughout, and in the fourth game, she's used mostly as eye candy and to add to Otacon's romance trauma.

Meryl is also whiny and accusatory, especially in the fourth game, giving Snake a hard time when it's clear he has some serious stuff going on.

Imo MGS4 relies way too much on callbacks and memberberries, even if it was meant to finish the main storylines. Not to mention that the storytelling felt like it was trying to come off as overly profound and over the top. It was just like watching one of my Japanese animes.

I did enjoy replaying the first two acts, especially the gameplay surrounding the ongoing battles, and how you can choose to influence them or to ignore and avoid them. It is pretty baffling how that part of the gameplay is completely dropped after Act 2.
After that, it just feels like going from A to B, with maybe a bossfight here and there, and SO. MANY. HOURS. OF. CUTSCENES. INBETWEEN.

Ultimately, I did like some things about it, but for the most part I did not like it enough to give it a thumbs up.

It is amazing how long ago it released with there being no ports since then. Konami really sucks.

A fantastic meta-commentary on allowing a franchise to retire at its prime instead of pumping its lifeless corpse full of adrenaline for one last hurrah. At every opportunity it felt like the game was mocking you with callbacks and constantly saying "HEY REMEMBER? REMEMBER THE THING? WELL IT'S DEAD NOW", and you know what? I loved it. I love when Kojima and team get sassy with the audience and by extension the games industry as a whole.

No. It was the point where I knew that the series was no longer for me and Kojima's style was generally something that didn't resonate with me.

It's been a super long time since I've played the game, and I've never had a desire to go back and play it. So I guess it was a meh game for me?

Way too many lengthy cutscenes. There were multiple what...30+ minute cut scenes?

I remember really enjoying the first two chapters. After that I started to lose some interest in the game even during my first playthrough.

I just remembered something. In my playthrough of Chapter 5, you are on a ship and have to get through a lot of enemies before being able to fight Screaming Mantis.

I tried to kill every enemy before fighting Screaming Mantis considering the alert was already present. The problem was, this part of the game has infinite reinforcements, so despite killing 100+ enemies, I wasn't able to get anywhere before eventually getting overwhelmed.

So I decided to tranq all the enemies instead. This prevented enemy respawn and this part of the game then became really easy.

It was ok, but disappointing in parts imo. I guess I will go with yes, but it was close to indifference.

I kinda like it and kinda hate it. Liquid Ocelot is super entertaining, but nearly everything else is unendearingly cringe. And despite detailed gameplay systems, it feels like there's barely any gameplay sections.

I've got some OPINIONS about this game.

Generally I like it, but it's my least favorite of the main series.

It's a weird mix of old Kojima game design and current Kojima game design.

I don't remember much about it besides the cutscenes being way too long, tbh. I got it back at launch, and it was the reason I bought a PS3. I haven't played it since then.
