Yeah, it's about as difficult as Sigma in MMX3. Like damn.

It isnt even so much difficult, just really bad if you fall for the fakeout one hit kill and then have no rings.

Isn't X3 sigma the easiest of them all?

Sonic 2...on Genesis?

You can play it safe and only hit him when the robot's knees buckle on landing. Takes a while but gets it done.

There are no rings in the level at all. You cant get hit. You also have to fight Mecha Sonic again every time you lose, and that gets old quick. I finally got him though. Mirror mode unlocked!

That boss is way harder than MMX3 Sigma.

X2 and X6 are quite blatantly easier. Whether X4's is easier or harder is up for debate.

X3 Sigma's weak spot(the head) has a wonky hitbox wherein his jutted-out chest armor can and will block your shots if you're not careful. Once you learn this quirk and know to aim at his shoulder pads and not the actual head it gets way easier, but until that it can be very problematic to land your shots.

Not to mention that X3 Sigma's first form has a very fast, hectic tempo as well, and again, can't be easily attacked because he carries a shield. Requires some effort in getting used to his attack patterns, and either:

1) Very precise Buster shots and/or learning how to arc his weakness(Spinning Blade) shots so they get past the shield.
or
2) Only attacking him when he's not using the shield, either due to shooting at you from mid-air or throwing it at you like a boomerang.

Only thing that pisses me off with that is when you go through him while hitting, and then die. God that used to drive me insane back in the day.

Always wondered if that was intentional or a glitch.

Kids these days will never know despair quite like making it all the way to Death Egg without dying, only to lose 30+ lives/ 5 Continues.

Then having to start from scratch

I could never get Metal Sonic's pattern down consistently enough to be able to get enough death egg robot attempts in. I didn't know how to hit him without getting hit back and would just die over and over.

and I would always just cheat to beat the game, but I should have used debug mode to at least learn the fight if I wanted to do that.

You could whack mecha sonic FAST if you timed the hits right. Like you hit him 3 or 4 times when he's standing still. I always finished him by spin dashing him through his own forward dash.

Mecha sonic can be cheesed by spin dashing whenever he stands still. You can get through him in 2 or 3 rounds easily

Eggman is pretty simple as long as you dont get greedy. If you keep your distance and only attack when you have a clear opening you will not get hit.

I thought the pre-super sonic final bosses in Sonic 3&K were a lot tougher, because if you die against them you respawn in with 0 rings just like sonic 2. That laser eggman shoots is pretty terrifying when you dont have margin for error

It's doable. The real bullshit is trying to do Sonic 2's final boss as Knuckles.

Yeah, I don't remember the exact time but I think I generally get him down in under 20 seconds. And of course the main boss is very easy and dies quickly once you get behind him.

It didn't really bother me all that much, but maybe it's because I also had the Game Gear version of Sonic 2 where every boss was on its own special level without rings, so every boss fight was a one hit kill.

I don't think I've ever died against the Sonic & Knuckles end bosses. I know I have died in the Doomsday Zone, but only because I didn't realize at first that you can hang back and collect rings at leisure whenever you start running low.

The phase with the laser in sonic 3 and knuckles is much harder than sonic 2s final boss imo

I think I've gotten hit by it once, in my entire life, the first time I fought it. And I had a shield, so it didn't kill me.

It's doable but a slow process to fight the boss as Sonic.
You are right that as Knuckles the boss is BS with Knuckles having a weaker jump.

Well I guess it's really up to the individual because I remember x3 sigma being the easiest one for me
If I had to pick one now I would probably go with x1 just because that sigma battle hurts my hands wall jumping
