my uncle has done it at times. though it's for actual reasons he was sick (most of the time).

Same.
For some reason my manager and his wife love to sabotage my time off. They manufacture a problem and use that as an excuse to try and force me to work.

Most of my sick days are mental health days where I'm burned out. It's funny when I'm in the office the next day, and my boss asks if I'm feeling better. Well, I'm still a slave to capitalism, so not really, but gotta pay those bills.

The problem is you're asking for permission like a child needing to go to the bathroom, as opposed to just telling them you won't be around at this time.

This to be blunt. I dont ask work for time off. I tell them when Im taking PTO

How could I forget

I got something of the same thing going on and some people have told me I'm just not making the choice to let shit go.

My position affects the livelihood of other employees. I surely agree it shouldn't be my burden, but I won't overlook the fact that the operation going to shit would come right back for me. If I was being underpaid then I'd drop it all together, but that, and the fact my bosses aren't toxic with strong consideration of my say....I put a lot of stock into that. They know my situation isn't good. We're weathering a overall operational situation due to some radical upticks in business intake.

So if I were to be mad at anyone, it's the other people who share the same title as me, and/or are more senior than me, and they can't carry anything in comparison. If I was the boss, I'd have to make certain decisions, but I'm glad I don't carry that type of burden.
