When the battle begins Superman instantly knows Light has the Deathnote, what it does and that he is about to write Clark Kent in it.

Clark Kent is a pseudonym, not his real name.

I was about to ask how far apart they are to start the battle, but if Light is about to write Clark Kent and not Kal-El then nothing will happen anyway.

Doesn't he see himself as a Kent moreso than a Kryptonian?
He'd find Light before he could write the name though. And even if he didn't, the Death Note only works on humans

You can have multiple legal names.

Supes has had different emphases on his identities depending on where he is on the very broad sliding timeline, which has remarkably consistent phases regardless of continuity resets. All this being said, it really depends where you're pulling Superman from; early Superman tends to be depicted as clumsy in figuring trickier villain shit out, while middle-aged Superman is regularly handling galactic doom like a regular 9-5 and will fly back in time to do invisible laser surgery kung fu to Light's brain before he can think of something evil to do, or some bullshit like that.

The way the shinigami eyes work, it has to be a name that would appear over their heads. I think it works like a spell. The name you were given at birth would be the name above your head. Rather than the name given to him by his human parents, I believe that it would be Kal-el.

Would a heart attack even kill Superman? His organs regenerate. Even if he "dies" he would just regenerate and come right back.

Unless you have gold kryptonite, it's straight up impossible to kill a Kryptonian under a yellow sun without some other godlike specter level power. No matter what you do, eventually, the Sun will return him to life.

only under a yellow sun. He 'died' against Doomsday but that death was only temporary since he was regenerating in his grave.

...The literal main threatening thing about Kira is that you don't have knowledge on who he is or how he does anything.

Also Superman isn't human, so the Death Note just wouldn't work. The DN is very particular about its rules.

Even if Superman just stands there, Light would write his name down, see the DN fail, pull out a gun and shoot him, see that also fail, then beg Ryuk to kill him, only for Ryuk to laugh in his face. Dude has no win conditions.

Superman, and it should be noted that magic isn't some "instant win" button against Superman either. It's not the same level of a "weakness" as what kryptonite is to him. It feels like the internet always perceives it that way.

To everyone itt arguing about what Superman considers his real name, that doesn't matter. The Death Note does seem to go by your birth name.

The names you will see with the Shinigami Eyes are the names needed to kill that person. You will be able to see a name even if it isn't officially registered anywhere.

The "even if" makes it sound like it considers the official registration first, then DN magic shenanigans if that method fails.

Clark Kent is Superman's legal name in all human world records, and Light's Death Note is specifically property of the human world:

This note shall become the property of the human world once it touches ground in the human world.

Superman's legal name on Earth would be what Light's Death Note uses.

If the DN was dropped to someone on Krypton then it'd probably use Kal-El instead.
