They assume that if God blessed them in earthly riches, that means they're living life for God. What God meant was riches in heaven. There's no point in arguing with Prosperity Gospel people. It might be the single most straightforward directive of Jesus. Don't be rich. If you are rich, give it away. It could not be any clearer. For a lot of religious dogma they can find a strand of truth somewhere they can twist and distort to mean what they want it to mean. But not for this one.
