Jesus, some of my cousins from Vietnam are being stupid with "that doesn't look like Vivi at all! I'm not just talking about her skin color, but her outfit looks out of place and not anime accurate." Like it's pretty easy to tell who actually knows the series and those that just did a quick Google search. Vivi, in the trailer, is clearly in her Wednesday outfit...and it's super faithful to it as well. I know they are from a different country, but sometimes I'm disappointed that I'm even related to some of them.

To be fair, it was really on Oda when it came to the characters skin color. Vivi, even in the color panels and covers of the manga, is shown to be light skinned even though the name "Nefetari" is Egyptian and the anime just copied it. With that said, for most of the cast, Oda signed off on them. For instance Oda said that he saw Luffy as being Brazillian, but Inaki is Mexican at yet he did an amazing job being Luffy in the live action (which once again, was hand picked by Oda himself).

it's a two-sided thing between the anime drawing her before she had an official color scheme (even her eye color is different from the manga and still is to this day) and Oda's artstyle for color spreads and stuff making characters pretty pale

Oda actually hadn't decided that Vivi was going to be the princess of Alabasta when he initially introduced her. Taken from the 21st Log book (and the One Piece Wiki):

Topic: Characters who played unexpectedly big roles (1)
To be honest, I have lots of such characters, but if I have to choose one, it must be VIVI!! No, she was Miss Wednesday. At first she appeared as an agent of Baroque Works, but I didn't think more about her. But, one time I drew Miss Wednesday with her hair down, and found, "Ohh she looks like a princess!"
I got the plan of the Alabasta Kingdom arc a while before. And then what will it be like if this girl would be the princess of Alabasta? The Alabasta arc started like that. For that reason, still beloved by fans, the character, Nefeltari Vivi was born.

So the reason Vivi is a pale-as-fuck princess of a desert kingdom is that she wasn't originally a princess of a desert kingdom.

i pointed out the canonical trans character of kiku and he said she dont count cus she is a insult to samurai because she did not comet sepuku after loosing an arm insisting that if a samurai lost a body part they where required to kill themself

Just wait until that person finds out about Yamato, a trans man that a too-large portion of the fanbase is insisting "is just roleplaying"

I'm fully convinced that Oda wanted Yamato to join the Straw Hats, because everything was pointing to it and there was GREAT synergy with the crew and their energy level, but had to back out of it because too many online bigots were shitting themselves over this great trans character.
