counterpoint, why the hell would a pilot risk losing his license? those things are hard to get in the first place, and almost impossible to get if you're caught 'doing drugs'.

Meh, the pilot wasn't just being a douche. Sounds like the policies regarding drug testing are super strict. I wouldn't risk my career on that crap either

And if I've learned anything about stoners, it's that getting the weed on the plane is the hard part.

Smoking it, they'll figure it the fuck out. I've met a few people who I feel confident would figure out a way to smoke weed on the damn moon.

Having worked for an airline and with pilots, we get random screenings all the time. So I dont blame the pilot at all for being paranoid about it.

There is no actual risk here, whether he understood that or not, and it seems like someone should have been able to sufficiently explain that and/or provide assurances in a time frame of less than four hours.

you can fail a drug test because you ate the wrong food, and as a pilot if he fails a drug test he's NEVER going to be able to fly a commercial flight again. so him freaking the fuck out about that makes perfect sense.

beyond that it is illegal to smoke on a plane; and against federal law, which matters since we're talking about a plane flying across state lines, to smoke pot anyway. they would have had to clear the plane to deal with that issue in the first place.

It's almost like people don't realize edibles exist.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. I've heard more than a few hospital workers getting caught from hair testing. Combine that with being in a pressurized metal tube of circulated air, & the possibility isn't nearly as improbable as you might think.

First point doesn't seem particularly contrary to what I said, so...okay. To reiterate, I don't expect everyone to understand how drugs affect your body, for how long, what they test for, etc., but just to be clear, he would need to be locked in a small, unventilated room over maybe an hour or more, with people actively smoking, for there to be a chance of him testing positive due to second-hand smoke.

On the second point, you seem to think I am siding with or defending the inconsiderate asshole with a substance abuse problem who lit up in the bathroom. I am not. I also don't know how long it takes to deal with something like this, independent of the pilot refusing to fly, though I would imagine less than four hours.

you're not wrong. but if you're prone to acting foolish while high i'd still heavily suggest against it. if you upset the flight crew enough they will duct tape you to a chair and have you arrested when you land.

It's detectable in hair for a lot longer than urine, but I'd wager those hospital workers are testing positive due to their own past use, not because one time someone smoked 30 feet away from them, plus a cursory google search says urine tests are the standard. And the filters in the air circulation would make it less likely, not more.

Hair testing just covers a longer period of time. Instead of the week or 2 to not be detected youre looking at closer to 60-90 days. If someone is claiming they failed a hair test because they were in the vicinity of weed smoke they are lying.

Drug tests use a certain level of concentration to determine a fail. If it was that easy to pop a drug test then people would be failing by the droves after something like a concert with a lot of people smoking. This doesnt happen.

Youd have to be in a fully like completely clouded hotboxed car for a long period of time before this would begin to be a worry. Im not excusing the person smoking on a plane though. Asshole behavior through and through

Probably shouldn't post this but...I flew to a friend's funeral and didnt realize until I got there that I had a roach in my wallet...if I found that out during the trip I would of ate it. Got lucky.

Also I dont blame the pilot. Imagine one hitting the tarmac going " ah little weed never affected me before" lol.

One the one hand, I feel it's unreasonable to make everyone else late because of on dude smoking weed.

But on the other hand, I understand not wanting to risk getting fucked over because of a dumb as hell drug test, regardless of how little chance it would be.

Some airports have very lax security.
My local airport hardly feels like you're going through security at all compared to a bigger airport.

Also, legal states don't care as much.
