...or so in Bitcoin? Worth In bitcoin. In a landfill ....he had given up trying to excavate it. Do you think it ever was possible to recover it, any of you doubt it was ever true?

If I remember correctly he's spent the last decade suing the bejesus out of the city to let him excavate the dump.

There's another guy who has all his bitcoin on a hard drive but lost the password, and he has only two guesses left.

I found the story entirely believable. I can understand the council not wanting him to dig up a working landfill, but when they closed the site I thought that they might let him dig it up. At least as long as he provided a reasonable plan to contain the refuse and return to site to original condition, along with posting a hefty surety bond toward the cleanup. He was such an asshole throughout though, I presume that the council might have turned down even a reasonable offer because they were just tired to dealing with him.

there has to be someone who can hack or crack the PW for him without losing it.

i cant imagine there is an encryption for a HDD that is or was so advanced it couldnt be hacked today.

I forgot the password to the 100 Dogecoins some dude here gave me ages ago. That's a cool $70 or so I missed out on when they jumped in value. >_>

obviously, so the guy pretty much over secured his bitcoin to the point he couldnt even access it.

not having some failsafe in place to prevent it from being gone forever just for himself seems like a major oversight.

Yup. If he can wait for quantum computers to become usable by the masses then it can be cracked easily perhaps.

In this specific context you were right; a team of hackers cracked the encryption type that the dude's flash drive is using.

The problem now seems to be that he already hired two other teams to crack the flash drive, and doesn't seem to trust the random hacker team that actually solved the problem.

Basically the problem is that before they even considering letting him buy the landfill they want him to pay six figures in court fees, which he feels is a ridiculous amount to pay without even being guaranteed a purchasing opportunity.

He's an arsehole and if crypto belongs anywhere, it's in a hole in the ground with all the other trash.
