Not counting as a little kid natch.

Fuck parking lots. Monotonous hell. Easy enough to get the wrong car for a moment when it has the same color, possibly same model and you are distracted trying to not die from shitty American drivers.

I remember waiting for my drivers test I parked next to a car the same make/model, and the person who finished their test while I was waiting got into my car by accident. They didn't notice it was the wrong car until the door was open and they were sitting down.

And I was just sitting there in front of the car being surprised that actually happens.

Twice

Once was as a kid, we had gone to the mall and someone parked next to it van with the exact same van. I was ahead of the family so I got in the van and this old lady was in the back seat and said "who the fuck are you?" So I got out immediately

Second time was a an adult. Someone parked next to me at the coffee shop with the exact same car. Got in, wondered why my seat was all the way forward and then realized it wasn't my car

No. I live in a low population area of the Midwest in farm area. Generally there is barely any vehicles in the parking lots when I run errands on my days off which fall during the week. I park out away from other vehicles and walk because I dont like being crowded on my sides and like opening my doors all the way. Ive never even seen my same truck in a parking lot.

Some people don't lock their cars, mate. 25 years ago, and even 15 years ago it was pretty common around here to leave your cars unlocked

Not entered, but I definitely tried to unlock/open the wrong car.

My car is a very popular model + there's usually at least 5-10 of them in any given parking lot. One time, someone with the exact same color/model vehicle parked right next to me and without looking I mistakenly walked up to it thinking it was mine. I'd do the wireless unlock, hear the beeping near me, but was faked out by the duplicate car.

Once.

I have a general area I park in at work. But that night the parking lot was packed and I had to park somewhere else. So then the next morning after a stressful overnight shift, I just instinctively went to my normal parking spot. And there was a car that looked just like mine, so opened it up and started to get in when I noticed things that didn't belong to me. That's when I remembered I parked somewhere else. I quickly stepped away and went to my car.

It was a mindless mistake and totally my fault.

Since I dont drive anymore I let my father "use" my car. Its fine when I'm gone its his anyway. So the story was he was in a parking lot and couldnt find the car. He did eventually. So he came up with the idea to replace the antenna which was working correctly. He instead painted it red. So he will know its the car from far away.

There was a grey toyota corolla parked next to mine. Exact same color. I opened the door and was like "Wait why is it a thousand times nicer in here than usual?" I didn't even see a bunch of pebbles and dirt and shit on the floorboards, fast food wrappers everywhere, or dried soda residue in the cup holders. I immediately shut the door and shamefully walked over to my car right next to it.

Yes, but it was an understandable thing. It was when I was working at a car dealership, and I was sent to pick up a customer's vehicle because they needed some work done in the shop. They had left their second key with us the previous night, and I was picking it up from the parking lot at their place of work. We knew the make and model and color of it, so the shuttle driver drove me around until we found a vehicle that matched. The key unlocked the door, which to me confirmed that it was correct, but it didn't start the vehicle, which confused both me and the shuttle driver, but then she noticed another vehicle that was also the right make and model and color, so I tried it on there and it did work, this time both to unlock the door and then to actually start the vehicle.

I have gotten in the wrong car and even tried to start it and couldn't figure out why the engine wouldn't crank. Took me probably a clean 30 seconds to realize I was sitting in a car that was the EXACT make, model, year, and color as mine except mine was like 2 spots further down. Both were clean inside with no decorations or anything. Weirdest feeling, like the matrix had glitched.

My first vehicle ever, 19ish years ago.

I once got into my locked up truck at my job at night and the key wouldn't start it. Tried a few times and still nothing.

Then I looked around and started to notice my surroundings. This truck had some sort of shag felt that I can best describe as 'pimpish' that my truck absolutely did not have.

Yeah... this wasn't my truck. It was some random person's truck that happened to be the same make/model and parked near mine.

I guess the fortunate part of the situation for me was nobody was around at the time (and for them, that I'm a decent human being). I got out with my keys, relocked it, and got the hell away from it. I couldn't help but laugh at myself lol.

Huh. This story may explain why I always insist at parking at the same spot or as near it as I can.

I've sat on the wrong motorcycle before. I used to have a red '06 CBR 600 and I went into a gas station to take a leak. When I came out someone riding a red CBR 600 (idk the year) had parked right next to me, so I sat on it and started to get my key out. I then noticed that there was no cell phone holder on the bar and jumped off before the owner came out.

Yes. I had an older SUV and there was an identical one not far from where I parked. Same color, interior, everything.

I hit the unlock button on the remote and could have sworn I heard a click. Put my groceries in the back and saw a case of water. I was like when tf did I get a case of water?

Got in the driver's seat and tried to turn it on and it wouldn't start. Then I noticed a little girl's flip flops on the passenger side floor and freaked out. I was praying the owner didn't come out and see me removing my groceries from the back of their car.

I've walked up to the wrong car twice before:

First, was with somebody else and went to get in their car but wound up walking to a different car that was the same exact type of car make/model/color, just a different person.

Second, shortly after getting my current car, I walked up to the same make/model/color car and didn't realize it until i saw the interior was different. it was in the same area depth of the parking lot, just like one aisle over. I was also in a different city than I was used to.

Never actually got into the wrong car though. Just reasonable mix ups when not paying as much attention.

No. But it reminded me when I accidentally hugged the wrong woman in a grocery store once when I was a kid, thinking it was my mom. I was pretty small and got lost and found a pair of legs that looked remarkably similar to my mom's. Unfortunately I didn't look up until after the fact and realized it was some random lady.

I didn't hug her but I did follow a lady who looked remarkably like my mother from the knees down.

Got hit with the "Mom?" "I'm not your mom" and kid me realized he had no prepared protocol for that particular scenario and defaulted to freaking out.
