all this did is teach bullies they wont face consequences for their actions

and as they grew up they took this mindset into adulthood where they kept acting like bullies

and yeah they they dont face consequences for their actions

they became influencers and use their platform to promote hate and make good money on it

or made their way up the corporate ladder

or became politicians

and no one ever stands up to them because every one is taught ot just ignore the bully

Best way to prevent bullying is to fight back. Bullies are cowards, they won't go for those who they know could give them a solid ass whooping in return.

It also didn't help that in many schools, defending yourself from physical violence is considered fighting. We were told to just turtle up basically and "block their punches". Schools usually protect bullies anyway. A lot of the teachers, principals, and administrators were bullies themselves.

I never really got picked on in school, but I'm so glad my Dad told me I wouldn't get into trouble at home if I ever got in a fight.

I gre up in the "zero tolerance" era where if you fought back you would both get in the same trouble.

We live in an age where people are just way too comfortable posting their bullshit on the internet. We need to go back to the time where when you tried to pop off you'd get popped in the mouth. A couple of missing teeth mellows out the most outrageous shit stirrer.

I tried the "ignore them" method. That doesn't work.

Throwing a chair at them got the message across though. They stopped bothering me and I got a day off via suspension.

I remember I had a teacher in 6th grade who told us I dont care what the school says. If someone is wailing on you then you have every right to fight back. Ill back you up when they call you into the office.

He was one of my favorite teachers. I wonder if hes still teaching

The principal of my future middle school came to talk to us at our elementary school when I was in fifth grade and spent a lot of time harping on his "ZeRo ToLeRaNcE" policy.

Even as a fifth grader I thought it sounded fucking stupid.

I got the zero tolerance, no fighting back shit from both my school and my parents.

So I just sat there and dealt with being bullied for years, it was fucking miserable.

The disarming part is the most important since what you described sounds like a speedrun towards creating a school shooter.

funny story from high school. one kid was a well known bully, liked to come up behind people and punch them in the back of the head. did it to a lot of people, and while a lot of people fought back it didn't stop him, he just went for another target.

so apparently he was fucking around at the bus stop one morning, jumping on people and being a regular jackass. eventually everyone there got fed up with his shit and beat the fuck out of him, when the bus came he had obviously been attacked but when asked every student just said he fell...

I feel like implying they go on to become influencers/corporate/politicians is combining several distractions that aren't inherently comparable. You can very likely still go down a corrupt route even when facing any consequences in adolescence, and I don't think there's any correlation in that.

Fighting back is generally the best answer 10/10. Even if youre suspended who cares? 3 days off is better then 3 days of abuse frankly. And mentally youre always feel better afterwards regardless.

its going to depend. yeah if its a single bully then fight back. if its a group if you fight back you are going to catch an ass whooping. might be worth it, probably not unless you want to send people to the hospital or go there yourself.

Everyone hates to be bullied, and if everyone collectively stood up to bullies they would stop. It is literally that simple.

To be fair, bullies don't have the equivalent of nuclear weapons. Which is an issue in a number of the international cases.

You ever watch that episode of Hey Arnold and the karate? He turned into a psychopath and somehow karate chopped tf out of a guy down to his underwear (he was only asking for the bus stop!).

But of course he learned how to control his power, and use it for good. He recovered his old bus pass and didn't resort to further violence with the guy who robbed him.

This discipline is further exercised when he didn't kill that dude who guilt tripped him into a bunny pajamas walk of shame after believing Arnold told everyone about it.

That really was shit advice.

Sometimes fighting back is not even an option if you're being bullied by multiple people at the same time. I got exactly that in grade school for being a minority in a predominately Hispanic Public Grade school. It was the first time I heard of the "small penis" stereotype about asians and I was constantly made fun of for that (it also didn't help that I was very short as well). The school didn't do anything, at most the principal literally went into my class and told everyone there to stop calling me names because it hurt my feelings...like that helps anything. My parents eventually took me out of that school and put me in a public school in Houston that was primarily White/Asian because of the bullying. I thought of sucker punching one of them, but I didn't want to get into trouble because of my collectivist type of thinking at the time, I didn't want to be a burden to my parents. With that said, I probably should've done a better job in standing up for myself...but it was really hard to do it when the only friends you made were others who also had low self esteem.

Pain keeps your typical bully in line. They typical go for 'easy targets'. Knowing that dealing with you guarantees retaliation make a coward think twice.

Fighting back only works if the bully can't just kick the shit out of you. Many bullies love the excuse of 'they threw the first punch', and set out to provoke it.

Contrary to popular belief, they aren't all cowards. Contrary to fiction, the courageous underdog can't always summon up a conquering rage.

These kinda worked for me. I was the silent type when I was young so I had a big target on me. Fought back once with the chair (tossed it in their direction) and ended up without suspension my reputation preceded me. Never been bothered again.

I had my fair share of being bullied. Luckily it was never physical but they did use harsh words that put me in bad mental health and made me hate myself.

It's alarming how much of school was an unrealistic fantasy land. Adults who run the world are not nice people who emphasize being kind like your best teachers are. By definition, if you're a teacher you're largely seen as a loser in society because you don't make much money.

I think it's also gonna depend on if the bully is much bigger than you are.

My parents taught me to ignore bullies, but they taught my sister, who is older than me, to fight back. I was always afraid to fight back because of retaliation and punishment, and so am I still.

Violence is never the answer but we'll spend 99% of 5th grade history learning about the Revolutionary War and how brilliant the founders were.

All the kids should team up and beat that bully back into place, then move along

Overall, I can't shake the feeling that people making light of bullying did it themselves and doing something about it now means admitting they did wrong in their life.

With this day and age of everyone having a smartphone that can record audio or video, always wonder why bullying isnt recorded as much.

Even at my age (high school roughly 05-09) you'd never see any footage of the bullying but you could get four different angles of every single fight.
