I hope this is good. I read the story in the 90s and I always wanted it to be a movie

I'm not sure if I ever wanted to be a movie, but now that it's going to be, I'm hoping it's good.

people often criticize Stephen King for not knowing how to end his stories, regardless of the overall quality of the narrative, but I liked the ending for this.

It just hurt too much in The Stand, especially considering the length of the book

I still haven't gotten around to reading The Stand yet, but yea, I hear great things except for its ending.

I'm usually fine with bad endings but this isn't an execution issue, there really wasn't even an attempt at one in The Stand.

Still very much worth a read though.

I never got this criticism of The Stand. If by ending, you mean the final confrontation, (and not, you know, everything that happens afterward), then you should have seen it coming. Upon at least a second read-through, it's foreshadowed pretty fucking hard how it'll all go down.

Like, what was the point of sending these guys specifically and not literally anybody else? Their character arcs didnt matter, it seems.

cause it was a test of faith. Besides, the leaders of the freezone had to be there so Flagg would gather all his minions in one place so they could get nuked

people who hate the stands ending read too much into the hand of god and ignore the religious themes/lord of the rings allusions

There was nothing wrong with the ending of The Stand.
