Here's a tip a lot of you probably already know: if the ball is about to roll off of a platform, there's a very small window of time where you can make an additional hit to save it.

lol yes, this one has saved me a couple times. Including a few days ago where my final shot counted to beat the level just before it rolled off into the water in the background.

Return to checkpoint is not the same as improving your lie. I took it as I could hit it from, in your example, where the flag was over to the left to make the angle better, but it counted as a stroke.

Yeah, I'd say that return to checkpoint is a lateral move (no pun intended) 90% of the time. The rest of the time, being on the extreme edge can open up an easier shot, instead of having to do a bank shot or what have you.

Your original phrasing sounded like you were saying that you could tap the ball around on the checkpoint area without using any strokes. I'm sure everyone already knew about "Return to Checkpoint," and using that when you're already at that checkpoint doesn't necessarily improve your lie.
