CE has never been subtle about shitting on Texas when it gets hit by disasters. People were really excited the last 2-3 winter systems for us to relive the 2021 blizzard because it would "own" a state that "voted for what it got." Literally no empathy even when most victims in these disasters are homeless people & children.

Not me. Im just appalled at the decision to gut the NWS and NOAA since in situations like this, having the most accurate data in a rapidly emerging storm like this is literally a matter of life and death since like in this instance, they had minutes at most to seek higher ground.

What's crazy is we have flash flood warnings but somehow one wasn't issued at least according to local authorities. Definitely a result incompetence or budget cuts

A lot of people here think entirely in binary. Texas votes red so everyone there deserves everything bad that happens despite the fact that a city like Houston is one of the largest, most diverse cities in the country and a blue area. Even children are apparently evil and deserving of fates like this to these people

I heartily disagree. I'm long past showing empathy to people who get what they voted for. They supported a party that is currently gutting agencies designed to give warning and response to natural disasters, so yes, I will take fucking glee for any trump/3rd party/eligible non-voter who dies in this flood. I do feel bad for the children who have been affected, but Uvalde shows that it is the texas republicans who don't give a shit about the life and safety of them.

So like if a news advert pops up saying 30 killed in severe storm and the state is red, do you immediately feel glee, or do you do a deep dive into every person who was killed by the storm to make sure theyre the correct people to laugh at?

These areas are never entirely red, even the reddest of areas will have people who still vote blue and just live there. I dont think taking glee because certain states get hit by natural disasters is a good thing to do

On the off chance it's useful information to anyone, my fam in Odessa says that area is fine

If its flooding in Austin, then the area on the Guadalupe that already got flooded is going to receive a lot of water.

I guess I'd also like to add that Texas is gerrymandered to hell, so it's hard to actually definitively say if an area is red or not.

Without looking at river or area I'd be willing to bet that poor urban planning, while not to blame, almost certainly exacerbated the disaster. The American South and Texas in particular have a long history of approving development in natural floodplains. Essentially channeling excess rain and discharge into the river system while simultaneously eliminating areas where run-off could happen. Up is the only place the water can go.

Im guessing it due to this being in Texas. If this was in an urban city like Seattle, LA, NYC, Chicago, Atlanta, etc reaction would be different.

Yeah, I live in the Round Rock area. I work in Austin, so if need be, we can go up to the roof.
Wife says that the rain is past them so at least it seems like my family is ok. The part of Round Rock we're in isn't a flood zone, so I think that everything should be good on my end.

Surely theres no idiotic New York politicians that are blatantly corrupt and then literally kneel to Trump to get their case dismissed. People would never vote for a guy like that. Certainly not as mayor of NYC

Real talk, Texas is gerrymandered to shit and the GOP uses voter suppression tactics whenever possible. Its awful politicians wielding their awful power to keep power. A LOT of blue voters live here and dont like our state government.

If youre gonna condemn entire states of people including children just for living there, maybe reevaluate that position.
