Yeah, I don't know the intent behind Colbert asking the question, but the end result is largely a positive one. Especially given how much money has been spent by Mamdani's opposition to paint him as an extremist Muslim antisemite. It was essentially a free counter to those ads.

I don't mind Colbert asking him the question. It's even likely that Mamdani and Lander wanted him to. The thing I have a problem with is the way he pretended as though it was a question for both of them, but only pushed back on Mamdani's answer as though Mamdani had to further justify his response but Lander didn't. That irked me. I don't think it was intentional on Colbert's part, just an awkward way of dealing with that whole situation. Thankfully Mamdani and Lander handled themselves well.

Why do people act like this is some kind of gotcha question? These interviews are prepared well in advance (both with celebrity guests and with politicians), Mamdanis team knew what questions they were gonna get.
