I've seen advertising for it during the NBA Finals (Disney owns Pixar and ABC/ESPN) and there are plenty of people with children who watch that, so I don't think it's a lack of advertising as much as it is a lack of interest. What's the point of watching the movie when we've already seen their homeworld? It would have been more interesting to show the kid being obsessed with aliens, and end the trailer with him getting beamed up.
