Customers bitch at the associates taking the orders, coworkers get impatient with other coworkers, I've seen one or two verbal fights between associates already, and our stand in manager today was absolutely rude as fuck. First impressions are, he has the worst attitude out of any manager I've worked with, and that's saying a lot.

Other than that so far so good. I'm getting about 30 hours a week and I'm slowly improving. Not making a whole lot though

Customers aside, I think the biggest thing is the "fast" part. The store demanding you get like a minute turn-around on guests means a stressful situation is turned into a pressure cooker.

The food is literally designed to reduce throughput times. I don't go to McDonald's for something made with a chef inspired care put into it

Yeah it can get pretty bad. I used to be a manager at Taco Bell when I was 18 and I was amazed at how grown adults would talk to my teenage employees or the things theyd say to us in general. Not to mention other things that kill your faith in humanity from working in the customer service industry.

It was never going to be the best job in the world. Its not something people aspire to, and there are reasons for that.

That said, its an honest living.

No one said that you were.

But try doing your job as fast as possible at all times of the day and see how stressed you get.

Right?! I spent a few years working at BK as a teenager and I couldnt believe how rude people could get. I just chalked it up to the fact that they got were just miserable with no other people below them to talk down to.

That and I was usually stoned af as a teenager.

Theres a ton of downtime in fast food - I can't imagine there being that much stress after lunch and dinner rush. Sure some stress is involved but it's not an entire shift of GOGOGOGOGOGOGO

So my impression from this post is that you have not worked fast food but feel that you have the ability to comment on what it's like to work fast food.

I worked in Subway. I didnt think it was that bad besides the crappy pay and the lack of hours

Massively depends on location. One establishments rush is anothers quiet period. Some locations really dont ever stop.

As someone that worked fast food and as a pharmacy technician the 2 jobs are vastly different. And fast food is much more busy and speed oriented, not comparable at all.

glad your doing well tc and yeah this job sector has it's fair share of shit going in with rude customers to crappy boss so hope you aren't overly stressed with this

I worked at a Subway when I was younger. Popular part of town, lots of rich people. So many people who thought they could literally have it their way, and threw a fit when they realized there were rules.

One woman brought her dog i side, pulled up a chair in the middle of the line, complained when she had to pay extra for double toppings, stole a bag of chips, and stormed out.

There was a line to the door during this whole thing. Not even the only story i have.

Yep. My place was only ever busy during lunch time for a couple hours. Rest of the time we'd get one customer at a time every few minutes, sometimes an hour would go by without anyone. But I know other fast food places are practically busy all the time and don't have that downtime luxury.

Yes. I worked McDonald's for two years as a trainer and three as a department manager. It literally fucked me up, but the bright side is it radicalized me quite a bit in the employee and working class front.

Customers will treat a minor employee like dirt, not know the item they ordered had x ingredient, get upset over waiting five extra mins, and managers are usually ill equipped, whether due to bad training or staffing nightmares.

Then finally it's one of the absolute most god awful jobs regardless of restaurant for pay and benefits. I work at Chick fil a, we make thirty k in sales a day and get paid 16.75 with one week of paid vacation that I'm not eligible for if I miss too many days because it ruins my avg hours worked.

These are objectively bad jobs with almost no redeeming qualities that the public DEMAND exist

Thats one of them, but thats also true in a lot of other jobs. Theres a number of other reasons why its not the best job.

Also, they treat the staff as disposable because, unfortunately, they are.

I worked less than a week in fast food and it was the worst job I've ever had. I had no training, my manager and coworkers got pissed at me when I asked how to do certain things and the only customers who weren't asshole Karens were potheads coming in later in my shift.

I'm 100,000% behind fully automating the fast food process.

I will never understand why people feel the need to be rude and antagonistic in public.
