Sony's Bend studio, which canceled a live-service game earlier this year, is laying off 30% of staff today (around 40 people), Bloomberg News has learned. The studio has been spinning up a new project following the cancellation.

Not enough

Just looked up what they've done. The Syphon Filter games up until the 2009 for PS2 and PSP, Uncharted games on the Vita in 2012, then Days Gone in 2019. Cancelled project would have been a live service Days Gone.

Doesn't seem to have been a major player in quite awhile.

Lucky they weren't shut down. Bluepoint is next.

I still remember when I was so excited Sony Bend was making an untitled ps4 game and I was thinking for sure it was a new Syphon Filter and I was super excited. I saw the setting was the Pacific Northwest and I got even more excited seeing footage, and then realized it was a fucking zombie game. Infected, zombie, mutant, cursed, whatever you call it to me its a zombie game which I hate.

So disappointing thats what Days Gone turned out to be. A modern Syphon Filter would be great.

I loved Days Gone. Some people disliked Deacon's personality, but overall he was great and it had an interesting story and world.

Also if you're a Syphon Filter fan, you'll be interested to know this: (Major Days Gone spoilers!!!) As you play through the game, you pick up "IPCA Tech" off of soldiers that look just like the CBDC from Syphon Filter. And you eventually unlock classified documents that say the virus in Days Gone is code named Syphon Filter and it's most likely man made. And it mentions that the scientist tried to follow-up with the principal agents involved, agents Logan, Xing, and Lipan, but their files were classified.

So basically the game takes place in a timeline were Gabe Logan failed to stop a virus and players are seeing the aftermath. You can also craft a stun gun with the initials GL on it that functions just like the Syphon Filter stun gun.

Yeah someone has previously pointed out the connection which I thought was pretty cool. I liked the Deacon character and had it strictly been about like rival biker gangs I could have gotten really into it but with the whole zombie virus angle I just couldnt do it. Amazing setting for a game though. Its a good game, just not a game for me.
