And you can say with 100% certainty that there has never been a single instance in your entire driving career that you've ever interacted with your GPS map app while your vehicle was in motion?
I can say that easily. First, I don't have a gps map app. Second, every time I've planned a trip somewhere unfamiliar, I actually plan it out on a paper map and stick to major roads using road signs to navigate. On the occasions I've had to make adjustments, I'll pull off somewhere and park while I figure out adjustments.

I would love to see the list of "legal" phone usage. Just a link will suffice

Its one of many, many problems with drivers that should be addressed here, along with the majority of drivers not having a license, traffic lights not being adhered to, people driving on the wrong side of the road, people driving on the pavement, etc.

You can agree that one is worse than the other, right?

yeah, everyone agrees that you're wrong. how many people driving have had drinks before they started the car vs how many people have a cellphone. people don't think the phone is a problem and that's why it's so much worse. drunk drivers aren't purposely taking their eyes off the road

It makes a lot more sense now that the people that got so upset admitted that they text while driving, among other things.

No kidding. I thought "don't drive while distracted" was a very simple thing to agree on.

Come on, kids, just follow the law! What's so complicated about that? This stuff could be so simple!

I haven't looked into the guts of the studies, but my assumption would be that while your reactions are delayed when drunk driving, drunk drivers still typically atleast tend to be focusing on the road, whereas people who text while driving are often not even looking at the road, so they have to first look up, and then react to what they see.

EDIT: This isn't a defense of drunk driving. Fuck drunk drivers. Both are horrible. It's just studies have proven that distracted driving, such as texting while driving, is actually several times more dangerous.

I also think that texting while driving is far more common than drunk driving, so that may be a factor.

If we had as many drunk drivers as we do text-drivers I think the stats might be different.

It's not just the amount, it's the lethality. The studies go into that drunk drivers are more likely to hurt or kill themselves, while drivers that text/are distracted are more likely to hurt or kill other people. Mostly because a lot of drunk driving accidents are people that went off the road and hit a tree or something, whereas a majority of distracted driving collisions are with other cars.
