I kinda hate the current NBA.

Even this deep into the playoffs the general way of playing the games seems to be to chuck out 3's and hope you hit at least 40% of them. You do it well you win, if you do it poorly you lose. It's like every team has just adopted this play style. It was interesting to see the highlights of the Celtics/Knicks game tonight and that the Celtics won by actually going inside and NOT SIMPLY CHUCKING UP THE 3 BALL! They threw up 49 instead of 60+ like they had a few times in the series.

The NBA won't probably change anything, but I want the mid game to come back. The current game is boring as fuck for the most part. I don't know if you simply back up the 3-point line by a few feet to see if that incentivizes teams (though really good shooters can hit it from 25-27 feet out decently well anyways) to try different things or what. I dunno.

I don't know what it would take to get people to appreciate how much talent is in the league today. The league and media have certainly done a terrible job of trying to get people to enjoy watching the game - so much drama and bitching, focusing on a select few teams, missing a lot of fun basketball being played. Generic complaints of "there are too many 3s" and "no one plays defense" make me feel like people are missing a lot of what's actually happening on the court.

The Celtics are an extreme even by today's standards. They just obliterated the record for 3pt attempt rate (as in percent of their total FGA) - and the gap between them and #2 this season was as big as the gap between #2 and #21.

Shorten the quarters, make the game clock run unstoppable like soccer and multiball

let the home team decide if there is a 3 pt line or not. As in a team could build around mid range and inside game and on their home court the three point line doesnt exist

stop rewarding players for jumping into defenders to get calls -> players aren't in foul trouble -> players drive more -> less threes taken

The increase in 3pt attempts isn't a cause, it's an effect. The emphasis on five out and spacing the floor has got defences rotating over greater distances, making it far more likely the open man will be spotting up at the arc. So then you shoot it or attack the close out ad nauseum.

I'd like to see is them tightening up footwork and travelling to bring it in line with FIBA. The NBA has always been lax on this but now you have to do something ludicrously obvious to get called.

If one team ends up 40 points down they get to switch to regular jerseys.
