I always ignore "greatest' and just go with my favorite. NES was the first generation where I finally felt like video games at home were good enough I didn't need to go to the arcade. Like I had fun with Atari/IntelliVision/ColecoVision and on PCs as well but it wasn't until NES where I truly became just hooked. My favorite game on NES is Blaster Master in late 1988. With that being said there are some other contenders like Ninja Gaiden in spring of 89. Mike Tyson's Punchout in 1987. Legend of Zelda in 1987. Mega Man 2 in summer of 89. The magic of scheherazade. While the NA version came out at like the 1st or 2nd week of january 1990, the japanese version was a thing since 1987.
