We are joining a lawsuit will challenge the Presidents unchecked authority to impose tariffs. We will not stand idly by while our livelihoodsand the livelihoods of thousands of small business owners and contractors in the US, along with the customers whose pursuit of happiness we hold dearare treated like pawns in a political game.

Like many tabletop publishers (import code 9504.90.6000*), we started print runs of products before the President took office, and now we face an unprecedented $14.50 tariff tax for every $10 we spent on manufacturing with our trusted long-term partner in China. For Stonemaier Games alone (a US based company in which all 8 employees are US citizens), that amounts to upcoming tariff payments of nearly $1.5 million.

I wish them the best of luck.

The entire tabletop board game & RPG industry is going to die if the Chinese tariffs aren't lifted.

When somebody decides to get off their ass, an R probably(LOL yeah right)....the constituonal authority of tariffs were not ever meant to be a thing a president could just do like he is now.

There is debate about the constitutionality of these tariffs. But it'll go nowhere as long as Republicans are spineless. Congress is skirting their duties over tariffs but they don't have to.

Not typically a fan of their games. The only game I have of theirs is wingspan but I support them anyway. Do it for all board game companies!

Unfortunately nothing will happen here. Trump probably will never even hear about this. But one of his underlings will shut it down.

I am surprised they only have 8 employees since they have made some of the biggest, most highly regarded boardgames in recents years. Viticulture, Scythe, and Wingspan to name a few. Trump's tax hikes are going to absolutely destroy many small American businesses and probably all importers.

Yes. But regardless of how you feel about it, he is legally authorized to do this by Congress. Congress can fix it any time they want by rescinding the IEEPA. You can't even challenge it in court as you can't sue over the removal of a law.

It sounds like maybe they're actually suing the federal government. You can't bring a civil lawsuit against the president personally for things they do as president unless you can show they were acting outside their constitutional authority.

Good luck with that. Scotus gave the president unlimited authority to do anything it wants so long as it's considered an official act, then proceeded to not define what an official act was. So I don't think the limits of Trump's constitutional authority on tariffs are going to be tested by a company that doesn't even have standing to challenge Trump on tariffs in the first place.

they will get as far as the consultation and drop it immediately because there is no fighting this administration legally when they own the courts.

How Tariffs Affect The Game Crafter
We are a US Company, but we exist in a global economy, and going back to individual economies not only doesnt make sense, it is not possible.
We have roughly 30 different robots and other machines that make your games. Exactly 3 of those machines were made in the United States, the rest were imported from 9 different countries. Which means the replacement parts to maintain those machines also come from 9 different countries.

The ink for our printers comes from Japan. The card stock that makes your cards comes from Germany. The chipboard that makes your punch outs and boards comes from the Netherlands. The tins and dice come from China. We import the raw materials that make your games from dozens of different countries. We always give preference to US suppliers, and still we end up importing because most of this stuff we either cannot source in the United States, or it is inferior quality.

I had a conversation with the top chipboard manufacturer in the United States back on November 26, 2024 about switching to them. However when he asked me where we source our chipboard from now he said he could not compete on quality or price. Thats right, I can import a better quality product across an ocean for less money than buying it a few states away. And that remains true even after the tariffs have gone into effect!
