Yeah, acting like female Porky had been around since the 30s was the greatest meme 4chan ever did, so many fake pics, videos and wiki hacking.

11.3 million on a 15 million budget with zero advertising and being bought by a different distributor sounds fine considering they just bought Coyote vs Acme

literally 0 marketing and advertisement will have that effect, especially in times with much turmoil in society as is stealing attention away from everything else

I saw a post mentioning it a good while back and I wanted to see it but since then I've completely forgot it even existed until this thread just now

WB couldn't have handled this worse if they tried

The studio doesnt get 100% of the ticket sales. The movie theaters dont show the movie for free. General rule of thumb is a 50/50 split between studio and theaters.

I wonder if the people who made this movie are from california, based on that twist.

I mean personally, I didn't like the movie, but I didn't like it because most of the jokes seemed to be aimed at the tiktok generation, so it's crazy that said generation didn't go to see it.

I dont remember anything gen z / TikTok-y about it. Do you have any specific examples / moments?

Yeah, for a movie that wasn't advertised and sent out to die, the fact that it made as much as it did through sheer word-of-mouth is impressive.

That's sad, but I can't blame them. WB has done nothing with Looney Tunes in the past 10-15 years and they haven't been on regular rotation on television in 20. That's a whole generation that didn't get to experience them. These are timeless characters and they are doing such a disservice to them.
Thats not true lol, some days when I work from home I put on one of the cartoon channels around 8am and they play one aimed at smaller kids for an hour where its tiny toons and they all work construction (that I skip) then they play one where bugs and daffy are roommates and the rest of the characters live in the neighborhood thats actually pretty decent for an hour

Tiny Toons Looniversity 2023present

And the compilation series
Bugs Bunny and Friends 2021present

Yeah a lot of people in this topic who are just flat out being naive.

LT has always had something in production. I also saw many ads and viral marketing for the movie, and I dont even think it came out in my country. Ive also seen news that it did better than expected, and it caused the Wile-E movie to be resurrected. I doubt WB thought the movie was gonna be huge.

I was talking about the original classics, but I guess you're right. There was The Looney Tunes Show from the early 2010s. And those new LT shorts, but those were only on HBO Max, weren't they? Kind of out of the way.

I too was shocked at all these new loony tunes properties that popped up suddenly during the pandemic era of the past 5 years. Especially considering who owns the company now.

Still haven't finished the looney tunes show, but it's been so good so far that when I saw this movie, I was expecting something similar. The movie is a bit long for what it is, if it had been half the length as a daffy and porky special, I probably would have liked it as a parody/homage of B movie style 50s era horror movies/alien movies

It was decent.

But long story short, WB spent the past twenty or so years paygating their nostalgia brands like Looney Tunes, and as a result its actually a chore to watch now. And the rare stuff that does hit mainstream channels gets drowned out by the volume of competition. As a result, Looney Tunes isnt a default cartoon option for borderline anyone anymore unless you specifically go out of your way for it. Surprise surprise, theres now an entire generation of kids that had no attachment to Looney Tunes starting to have kids themselves and the show isnt in their rotation remotely compared to things actually readily available online and on TV.

Super disappointing that it didn't do well. I took my little brother to see it, it was great & amazingly animated. 2D animation looks better than the majority of CGI schlock we get instead nowadays

Yeah considering the state of 2d animation, it looked as good as anyone could hope for under the circumstances. I definitely liked the 50s b movie aesthetic

The whole Coyote vs Acme was sad because it shows the decay of culture under capitalism. CEOs only care about profit they personally make so only the things like sequals and remakes come out.

So if something isn't going to make millions it doesn't get make or in this case shelved for a tax break. Media is supposed to be an art form but instead we get the same regurgitated garbage so someone can profit off of it.

I actually did see a trailer for this (I think when I went to go see the Lord of the Rings anime movie? which also had an empty theater). But I had forgotten about it by the time it was actually released. Also wasn't that impressed by said trailer. Bad trailer, good movie is an unfortunate factor to throw onto the pile.
