I'll say what I said about Ocarina of Time last year: This game must have absolutely blown people's minds back in the day. Now that I've finally played both VI and VII though, I think VI is better. VI actually almost made me tear up more than once.

Never really understood what so many people see in 6. It's not bad or anything; it's just definitely not better than 7 or 4. Even 9, like, I don't particularly agree with the people who think it's amazing, but I can at least understand why they do.

But anyway, the actual ending of 7 is terrible but the whole rest of the game is amazing. Still one of the best games ever made.

Maybe you could argue 7 is better than 6, but no way is 4 better than 6. 4's original translation alone makes it worse. At least in 6, you can mostly understand what everyone is saying.

I used to be in the camp that 6 & 7 were really close, and 6 might be better. In going back and replaying them recently, I think 7 holds up a lot more, block graphics notwithstanding. Both are great, though. My top tier for FF games is 7 > 4 > 10 > 9 > 6.

To be fair, I dunno anything about the original translation. I'm only familiar with the GBA one and the 3D remake.

Same. And 6 had some mind blowing stuff as well. I remember when the floating continent first went up, thinking that those were some of the greatest graphics Id ever seen. Same with when Kefka moved the statues and the earth realigned. Any moment in the game where I could control multiple parties felt like a revelation as well.

With FF7 so many moment were mind blowing. I distinctly remember being more and more awestruck with each subsequent Bahamut being summoned.

Didn't play it when it first came out. Think I played it around the PS2 era. Liked it a lot, but I didn't really find it to be the end all be all that most did. It sits as my 5th favourite in the series.

Yeah, I played it after release and it blew my mind.

I got OoT at launch and it was very good, but not really mind-blowing.

Yeah, it's tough to compare 6 and 7 directly because they're from different eras (despite only being 3 years apart, lol). Both were revolutionary in their own ways. Comparing 7 to 8 and 9 is a lot fairer game; I love 8 and 9 and they both hit some great highs, but it was really hard for them to top the spectacle that 7 was when it was new; every new Bahamut animation was like "cool, but eh, I've seen it all before. Hard to top Bahamut Zero literally nuking your enemies from orbit."

Fittingly, the pinnacle of this was Safer Sephiroth's Supernova attack. It's did for the franchise was the Death Star did for Star Wars; try as you might, you just can't top the scope of it going forward.

I will always bring this up when it's mentioned but the internet made me think FF6 was god's gift to gaming and when I played it for the first time I was so let down I never want to play it again. Same thing with Chrono Trigger.

The OG Final Fantasy 7 is better than both the remakes. The two new ones are just better looking voice acted versions of a way better game.

the parts where the remakes do what the original did or expand upon the stuff that was in the original are great. it's all the crap in between that they added to pad things out that are really annoying. especially chadley

4 is better than 6? LOL.

But anyway, getting back to the thread, 7 had some really cool stuff. I bought it upon release (still have my pre-order t-shirt), and played it almost nonstop for three days until I beat it. It was really cool stuff, and made me excited for the future of games (and I was 22 when it released).

Getting back to 6, the most amazing thing about it is that it was put on old technology. Its improvements over 4 (which is what it followed in the states) and 5 are incredible. Graphics, music, scale and size - the game Improved immensely over all of these, and did so while using the same old Super Nintendo.

the first time I played FF7 was when my friend brought it over so I could help him beat Materia Keeper. so I had no idea what happened in the game before that.

I kept the save and rented the game to finish it. Had no fucking clue what was going on.

Nah, what they did at Rebirth's end and completely removing one of the best scenes in OG in Cloud's lines when Aerith dies was a massive disapointment for me.

The padding is just what makes it even worse.

Coming off of 4/5, 6 was such a huge leap in combat, storytelling, and graphics, as well as music and other aspects of presentation. It has a slow start, but once it picks up it never stops until you get to WoR, which is intentionally slower.

Yeah but we already saw that like 25 years ago. You wanted it again?

At first I was confused and a little shook, but the fact that she averted death by switching between realities at the exact moment, causing her to be alive and dead at the same time is weird but intriguing. Im down for seeing where they are going with this,

7 was the first RPG I actually played through. I really liked it and went back to others. It's between 6 and 7 being my favorites but honestly 7 is easier to replay.

Glad you liked it TC.

Yeah, I wanted that emotional scene voiced, good voice acting will make it even more. I'm not going to say that I'm not interested in what they're going to do, but they could have had that scene and still had the ending they did.
