I do nothing but speak out in support of trans people and our issues. I do nothing but extend to everyone the benefit of the doubt regarding their gender identity. and every fucking time i get some indignant fucking kid accusing me of being a bad actor and propogating transmisogyny or some shit

I can't speak on this issue as it is completely out of my wheelhouse but when you mention terminally online people I think that is why I generally don't really use the Internet much. Gamefaqs is my one vice and I kill a lot of time here at work (like literally right now) but I basically otherwise don't touch online because it feels like every community ends up with frustrating shit like this from the serious to the mundane.

They just kill the mood in every subject, even lighthearted hobbies that are supposed to be fun.

you're exactly right. i still feel the need to put my voice out there. i'm a minority in the trans community, i know how alienating it is. and i know how quickly people look to cudgel ppl like me with accusations. if my words make one unsure or otherwise good-faith person feel better about themselves, its still worth it

if there were more people like me online back in the day, i could have had a much earlier start

Not specifically on the topic of gender, but that's annoying enough when it happens here. Reddit seems like self-flagellation.

Honestly most subreddits feel like you're living in that episode of the Twilight Zone where the kid will make you disappear if you upset them. You have to express an opinion the hive mind agrees with and you have to express it in the right way.

I think America is going too hard on the whole individualism thing. It's not enough to belong or be accepted. It seems many need to be front and forward, with their own thoughts and actions standing above the rest.

Stop spending time on there. The people you're talking to don't care about what is best for you or trans people in general, they care about the power they feel from policing the speech of random people.

I'm not going to say that's worse but damn, that's pretty fucked up.

Imagine being that guy...trying to catfish lesbians, and the hatred of transwomen is still ridiculous and I've told someone that it's another person's choice(to be trans) and I'm not the type to judge them, and I get called "judgmental" towards that person because of how they feel about it.

You could see literal question marks pop up over my head. Both because of how it didn't make sense and how ironic that she thinks I'm judging her because she judges other people and it upset her lol.

But she's one of those 'conservatives' that says she wants to stay in her own little bubble and doesn't like new information. Told her about something that Trump said, did, and admitted to, and she said "Well, I don't know anything about that but I just won't take your word for it" and that's when I realized that this is half the country.

I honestly wish I could somehow take a mirror and point it at them and it allows him to see the things they say and understand how stupid it sounds(and hateful) but we will be stuck in a universe where no one understands the other, and how one is right and one is clearly wrong....

I've also never had this issue interacting with any trans spaces on reddit. Which makes me curious what you're saying and in which sub to run into this multiple times

Ironically I can't stand r/ActualLesbians because most of the time it's trans discourse - whether trans women are allowed to call themselves lesbians, whether trans women are welcome there, whether it's okay to like dick, or God knows what. And at least while I was there there was a persistent cycle of posts supporting trans women while trans women/supporters in the comments would get downvoted to oblivion, or you'd get the occasional trans hate thread.

And it's just ... exhausting as a trans woman. And it never helped that whenever this would be brought up - be it the cycle or the cadre of transphobes lurking - it would be routinely denied by half of those who find the thread.

For now I just mostly stick to the WLW meme subs when it comes to my sapphic side - or Discord of course, since my main server nowadays has a predominantly sapphic atmosphere. Maybe that subreddit has improved since, idk, but it was definitely a bad impression on me.

Trans subreddits are always on high alert. They are constantly barraged by haters. Hell, I've even gotten accounts that 'followed' me named shit like 'ionlyfollowmen' and stupid-ass names like that. Then after this administration, we see lots of so-called 'supporters' turn tail against us.

Not surprised people in them are highly on edge.... but doing things this way just alienate (new) allies.

I think almost any kind of community will have these types of people. They're possibly insecure, paranoid, or just looking for a fight. Even if they may mean well, they might do things in the worst way.
