tl;dr - Assume I am only getting one game and may not get another for a while. So having a lengthier game to put time into might be nice. I have barely played any version of any of these games.


I am interested in a single player game with a good campaign.

if I get two games with my PS5 Ill absolutely get Astro Bot as one of them. But I think that may be a bit short for my first game as it may be say a month before I have the $$ to start buying more games

I do have two from games on here so I will look at their combined votes

Elden Ring - I am not a huge fan of the emptiness of open world games and time spent traversing (not a huge Breath of the Wild fan for example) but I really like the fantasy setting and I enjoyed Bloodborne although I did not get very far for personal reasons (soulslike difficulty shouldnt be an issue). That is the only From game Ive ever played.

FF7 Remake Intergrade - confession time I have barely played FF7, never beaten a FF game. LOVE Kingdom Hearts 1 + 2 though and enjoy a good ARPG so the ways remake differs from FF7 interest me. This and rebirth look gorgeous and it would be fun to be part of the hype for the conclusion. I know the story of FF7 generally speaking. Again, not a huge open world guy typically and dont like wandering through a ton of empty space.

Persona 3 Reload - I have listened to this soundtrack a lot despite not playing this. Ive never played any Persona game. Isnt this part life sim part dungeon crawler and most of the gameplay is the social link stuff? The all-important vibes look promising.

Spider-Man - Never played the original. Looks fun. Seems like a big world but not overwhelmingly big? PS5 launch title which hey maybe a fun idea to start my collection with a launch title I find interesting.

Demons Soul - Seemingly the other big PS5 launch title. Again, barely have played from games. This feels like the option where its a from game but not such a big world.

I'd say you spend most of the game outside of the dungeon crawling, yes.

As someone who despises open world games as well, Elden Ring.

I would say Demons Souls, may as well start with a launch game thats a great showcase for the PS5 and a good introduction to the Soulslike formula. That was my vote but other than that start with Astros Playroom which is free and pre-installed. Great platformer that showcases the hardware and is only a few hours long.

Elden Ring og Rebirth

If you want a long game, Elden Ring's your best bet. P3R's the second longest game on the list. Spider-Man's the shortest.

And yeah, Astro's Playroom comes with your PS5. Would recommend.

Remake has basically no open world. Its a pretty linear game. Im a huge fan of the gameplay in Rebirth and you probably would too, as a KH fan.

if you want a longer game, its probably Elden Ring or Persona though.

Yeah this. The open world does get tiresome after awhile, and severely hurts replay value, but the meat of the game is still top notch. Plus it's an incredible map to explore on a first playthrough.

Having just finished doing a full, all content replay of Elden Ring just 2 nights ago, the only time I really felt the "open world suffering" in Elden Ring was the very last zone of the main game, and that's something most people agree on regardless of their stance on open world games so it's not just a me thing.

Thankfully that area has the least content anyways, so it doesn't hurt for long....which I guess is actually the problem, lol.

Voted 7 Remake. As mentioned, the open world stuff doesn't come in until Rebirth. It's a good ARPG system that gets improved in Rebirth.

Elden Ring is probably better overall but you don't really need a PS5 to get much out of it. Since this is your first PS5 game might as well get one that takes advantage of the hardware, and the Spider-Man games are exhausting.

Elden Ring, easy. It was my first FromSoft game as well and is now in my top 10 games of all time. It's certainly influenced from BotW's exploration-style (discover it for yourself through exploration), but the world is much less empty.

After a strong early start for P3R it really became a two horse race between Elden Ring (16 votes currently) and FF7 Remake Intergrade (22 votes currently).

Id like to get both of these games eventually. Heck, Id like to get all of these.

Perhaps a playthrough topic will be in order but thats next month after I get my bonus.

Ahh it's remake on the ps5, got it.

The big thing about remake is that rebirth is after it, also on the PS5. Good place to start for the series but you're gonna probably play the sequel. This is also a PS4 port so keep that in mind.

Elden Ring meanwhile will be complete in and of itself. It's also made for the more recent consoles. So voted for that one.
