I'm in the minority who weren't feeling the sequel.

T2 is a sequel done right

I feel like I want to pick Terminator for no other reason than while T2 was the superior movie, T1 was revolutionary.

It's genuinely baffling to me that people prefer the second.

The first one looks better, isn't overly long and isn't about the terminator being friends with an obnoxious kid.

It's fine. Some of the action scenes are exceptional. But nah, man.

I prefer the first one but they're both like a 12/10

I prefer the first one because it contains 100% less Edward Furlong

I prefer the first, but both are great.

The second, no contest.

The stop motion effects at the end of the first movie alone ruin it for me.

The second has special effects that look better than it's modern sequels.

Both are excellent, but the first one will always be my favorite.

In the first film everything is new and the entire film was one hell of a great ride.

The sequel might be superior in superficial ways, such as the SFX, but it's just not as "fresh" as the original.

Plus, T2 has Edward Furlong. Enough said.

I know this is a cop out, but I have trouble comparing these two just like I do the first two of the Alien Franchise. T1 was revolutionary sci fi/horror. The second redefined the blockbuster summer film for the modern era. They were both nearly perfect in what they set out to do. How to choose?

I guess T1 is a better film, so I put it slightly ahead. But T2 is one of the most fun theater experiences ever.

I have not truly liked any Terminator movie since T2. But if any fan is looking for fun modern Terminator properties, I thought both Terminator Resistance (video game), and Terminator: Zero (anime series on Netflix) were great.

Both are great movies in very different ways.

Both are great but T2 is basically a perfect movie.

The second, but they're both so different. I didn't find Edward Furlong annoying at all, either. I thought he acted his scenes out great.

I like the first more. I just enjoyed seeing Arnold as a straight up villain.

T2. It's the perfect sequel.

T1 is still a classic.

I don't think the first movie was as scary or thrilling as people give it credit for.

Comparing adult John vs kid John, I prefer kid. Adult Johns performance wasn't that interesting.

And at purely shallow level, T2 special effects were so much more awesome than the first. The first you can tell was much more held back by budget. (Especially rubber head ahnold)

T2 is better, IMO

Like the Alien and Predator films, the first is the best, to me.

First one. Mostly because I didn't find kid Connor all that likeable. Both movies are amazing.

Edit: Not that adult Connor is much better.

T1 for the nostalgic feel of some of the scenes. I can remember the apartment we had when I was a kid seeing it for the first time. I try to always watch T2 right after though.

I just watched them both for the first time in like 30 years.

I think im leaning towards the first one being slightly better, but the second one is also quite good.

It had been so long that i really didnt remember much of anything

T1 is a great film, but T2 is an objectively better movie in just about every way.

The T2 Ultimate Edition DVD was the best and had soooooo much content. The Bluray was ok, didn't have as much content. I got the 4K movie with the cybernetic arm (it's a cheap plastic, but it's so damn cool) and this one doesn't even have the deleted scenes. I was so disappointed.

If you're moreso talking about the video quality, I can't speak on that. I don't remember them looking extra glossy, but I'm sure blu-ray.com has many detailed reviews on all the different releases.

I'd rather rewatch T1 than T2 if those were my only two options. Both are great though.

If I was "objective", if such a thing is possible, I would say that Terminator 2 is the better film. But I have a lot more love for the first one.

Go in with reduced, or at least altered expectations. Terminator 3 is enjoyable in a different way than the first two are. It's more of a silly sci-fi action film that can get very stupid at times. The villain is a lot more underwhelming than the original T-800 and T-1000. But on the flipside, Arnold's character is a lot more no-nonsense than he is in every entry aside from the original.

I dont think Terminator 3 is streaming anywhere, so i guess i cant watch it anyway

Never actually seen 2. I've seen a few key scenes, but never say down to watch the whole thing.

T1 is an outstanding movie though. Like crazy good.

T1 has some cool tech-noir horror stuff, and Arnie plays an incredible killing machine, but T2 is one of the greatest movies of all time.

The first one doesn't hold up well (visually). Neither does Total Recall.

T1 had better meme moments though. So many great, memorable, mostly Arnold moments. Oh man, you can't forget the sex scene as well.

I saw T2 first and always liked it more, probably for that reason.

It was the 80's, computer generated effects were still in their infancy. Stop motion was all they had.

I normally hate stop motion, but in this case it works. The jerky motion and infinite shutter speed that normally bother me in stop motion just kinda make sense when what's being animated is a robot that's taken tons of damage and is quite possibly malfunctioning.

Actually, it's visibly malfunctioning. I forgot about its limp.

The only shot I think looks bad in T1 in when they shut the door right before the endoskeleton gets to them and that's like a 2 second shot.

I like it the least of the post T2 sequels but it's got some great parts. I'm a superfan though and only count T1 and T2 as canon even though I'll watch and enjoy anything terminator.

Both great. The T2 release with all the deleted footage re-added is the only way to watch it. The extended gas station scene is worth it alone. Terminator is slightly better than T2 for just one reason.
