I'm reading the fifth book for the first time.

In the last hundred pages or so, one character made oblique reference to being non-binary and another came out as gay.

Hell yeah! That's awesome. Looking at picking it up the beginning of next month. Read the first 4 books and loved them.

It probably will be ignored until the books get made into a streaming network series

There were a bunch of 1 star reviews complaining about that stuff, IIRC.

If it's who I think it is (about 700 pages in myself) it's Renarin and Rlain.

And there has been some whining from those types about it from what I've heard, personally I say ignore em. They've never read the books to begin with if they think Renarin and Rlain were just suddenly made gay in book 5,

Honestly I might be missing one or two, but:

Non-binary: Rushu, Navani's sort of second-in-command scholar.

Gay: Renarin, Rlain (presumably, not that far in)

I just finished the book the other day. The most depressing part about the whole thing was realizing that, best case scenario, I will be like 60 by the time the last book releases.

Assuming you mean me: the chuds keep sending death threats to my clients, my colleagues, and me personally, so they do in fact take up some mental real estate, yes.

Stormlight's been woke since the beginning. If not with passing references (like the random gay windrunner) then with the blatant themes of subverting gender roles with fucking...reading and writing lol. Or fucking Jasnah being the baddest bitch in all of Roshar

Not a huge fan of Sanderson, but at least he's trying to be more inclusive there.

Between the Cosmere and Dresden Files, I'm starting to feel the same. Gonna have to avoid any long term commitment series going forward.

She kind of isn't though, she just pretends she is.

Ironically if you step back and just look at what Shallan has achieved she's very much overtaken Jasnah and has done so for books at this point. We see it all through the lens of Shallan's POV so we're always aware of how close to collapse she is but looked at objectively and externally Shallan's the baddest girlboss of Roshar, whereas Jasnah's kinda just over there posturing.

Wouldn't surprise me if she's being set up for a massive fall in book 5 TBH. Her brief POVs are kinda ominous.

Yeah I saw some 1 stars that only complained about inclusion

Yeah you got a point. I was just thinking in the context of alt-right whiners, Jasnah's little chapter in WoK where she extra-judicially kills a bunch of rapists/muggers and is made to look awesome while doing it would be the exact kind of scene that should've clued in said whiners a long time ago. >_>

I saw a thumbnail about the hype for Sanderson fading, but some absolute tool name Jon Del Arroz is like 11 of the first 10 YouTube recommends with clickbait headlines about how woke Sanderson is.

So, there's at least one YouTuber chud out there with a hate-on big enough to flood the algorithm with his screeds. I assume they're screeds because of the titles. They didn't seem worth clicking.
