I assume you download the documents as PDF from the IRS website or something

But I also assume it's like 30 levels deep in a really bad menu system and I also don't know if you're supposed to mail the completed forms or what.

Just use something like https://www.olt.com/main/home/default.php

But if you have really simple taxes you can just find the forms and do it yourself

The library has free forms probably still. My older brother still mails his in. I just started doing them online because I was angry and they weren't very complicated. My meager income notwithstanding

. I just smash out a few buttons. Get confused when my state asks me too many questions about renting/owning property and then they go off.

Correct.

If you know which forms you need, they're all pretty easily accessible to download from the IRS website. If you can't find what you need from navigating the menus on their website, just google the form you need and the correct link will usually be the first result.

Then you just fill everything out on the computer, print it out, sign it, and mail it in. That's how I've always done it anyway

You just print the documents off the IRS and then mail them to the right address with the right postage. Chances are unless you have exemptions like having a Boat or Donations, and claims like gambling windfalls and prize money then you're just putting your bank account totals and W2s on there, amount of dependents, whether you're a veteran or not and if you provide 24 hour care to anyone.

Just don't do this.

I use Freetaxusa.com to file. It is much cheaper than Turbotax and you can file directly within the tool without needing to print or mail anything

Our taxes are always a mess. Mostly because of deductions.

I dunno why I bother tbh, I pretty much always end up taking the standard after all that pain anyway. One time I didn't. I guess I'm deluding myself into thinking that's going to happen again.

Oh, and I just remembered, I need to do state too.

I do mine like the day I get my W2. Or at least my next day off after I get it. I like to get that shit over with as soon as possible.

I gotta remember to use something other than TurboTax this year to save some moolah.
