Please, someone, anyone, break this down for me like Im five years old.

A group of buddies are taken from their orphanage and trained to be memory wiped child soldiers to fight a time travelling witch.

Skip the mission to play cards, it's a lot more fun.

I got this big shocky bird and it shocks stuff. I don't remember much else... should I be concerned?

Squall dies at the end of disc one and the rest of the game is a stupid teenager trying to explain everything that happened to him and doing a very bad job of it.

so anyways you're apart of an organization that was created to stop the sorceress. We first see her control the school headmaster's wife, then later she transitions to using one of the main playable characters as her host.

A time witch wants to make a time sandwich. No one likes that idea because they live in time. So a child army of conscripted orphans with amnesia are sent to kill their foster mother because she thinks a time sandwich sounds kinda tasty right now. The love interest is a girl who fires her dog like a rocket, and is really good at making sandwiches. So to stop her from giving advice on how to make the time sandwich, they trigger the moon to vomit. This turns everyone off from sandwiches for a while, and they use the opportunity to punch the witch in face because no one even wanted a sandwich to begin with, and they all agree that a slice of time is good enough for anyone.

Im so glad Im far from the only person who noticed this. I actually read Cids dialogue in Robin Williams voice, which is hilarious when hes cussing out the schools mysterious benefactor since I mainly remember Robin Williams from the roles of several childrens films I had while growing up in the nineties.

It's basically a whole time loop thing. You're part of a mercenary group and basically spend the first 3 discs trying to stop this evil sorceress from the future who is trying to compress time (basically meaning that everyone besides her ceases to exist). So...essentially, you end up traveling to the future through this compressed timeline, killing said sorceress, and in the compressed timeline, you travel to the past and tell your mentors/guardians to start the mercenary group that you're part of.

Robin Williams recruited amnesiac orphan teens with attitude to stop a time traveling Rita Repulsa (who is his wife) from destroying time but also stabilize the time loop.

Also your dad fucking rocks but also is not cool in some ways (but ultimately for the greater good)

The really REALLY dumbed down version?

**MASSIVE FF8 SPOILERS**

The game takes place in a universe with beings known as Sorceresses. They are exceptionally powerful beings who have been both people who do good things and people who do bad things. A bunch of stuff happens to start the world and blah blah that isn't as important.

What is important is that the magic the Sorceress can use is like, REALLY broken potentially. Including messing with time. What basically happens to kick off everything is that the world is in a bit of political turmoil with rival countries trying to take control of the world in let's call it the "Present". A sorceress from the far future ends up coming into contact with one in the Present through time travel and basically that is how Sorceresses die; they pass on their powers to the next capable female. Accepting the power of this sorceress (who she didn't know at the time was like, mega evil), this Sorceress in the present recognizes that a huge shift in power is going to happen and wants to try to set up a system to combat bad ones.

Her and her husband set out to make schools to train regular people to fight Sorceresses, cause these women are so potentially powerful and now that time travel shenanigans are taking place, they need to train regular people to have ANY prayer to stop a bad Sorceress from taking over the world. Throughout the game you play as students of one of these schools. Due to the time travel type shenanigans, you also play part of the game in the not so distant past, kinda like your consciousness is being projected into the past... to see the last bad Sorceress and how she was stopped.

So the game is all about your exploits as members of the school (SeeD) training to fight Sorceresses, learning what is going on in the world and being hired by governments to help in domestic conflicts, while also looking into the past to see how the last one was stopped. The Sorceress who started SeeD with her husband eventually is turned evil due to the crazy amount of power she inherited from Future Sorceress, so you have to fight her eventually too.

In a cruel twist of fate, it turns out that in the far future, SeeD's original aspirations are warped and rather than being a safeguard against bad Sorceresses, they kinda just morphed into a Sorceress kill squad. So that really powerful Sorceress from the Future? She hated the SeeD in her time and through her own mastery of time created a plan to fuck with world events in the Present to ensure SeeD never survives to stop her in the future.

That's about as simple as I can make it? LOL

I even got modded for it.

A bunch of teenagers set out on a mission in where they find out an evil witch is corrupting the government. After that they find out that the witch was being mind controlled by another Witch, who exists in a different timeline years in the future . We also find out that constant use of summon magic caused everyone to forget a lot of things, including that all of the teenagers were once orphans, in an orphanage ran by the first witch. We also find out there is a third witch terrorizing a separate continent at some point during the story.

That should be basic enough for you to understand.

I got a moderation in a topic asking to explain the ending of Lost once. Which I did. The moderation came A month after the topic was made.

Everyone in here is talking about sorceress this and time compression that. Ultimately, its a love story about a moody young man and a woman who is into him solely for his good looks.

There are always exceptions.
Making a Playthrough topic, mark it with spoilers and the first thing you do is to spoil the endgame will get you moderated.

I like how the very first post is a moderator breaking the TOS =p

The game was poorly translated and you have to read through the menus to get the entire story.

Skip the mission to play cards, it's a lot more fun.

You can just play cards in FFXIV (with more cards) and have a better main game too.
