I think Dead Cells spoiled me since I'm playing through Nine Sols and the combat just isn't satisfying

It's good enough compared to rest of the genre that I view it more as a beat 'em up more than a Metroidvania: it's better to the point that the comparison comes across as a bit bizarre.

How are the Bloodstained games?

Blasphemous and Guacamelee come to mind.

The 2nd Ori game.

While the first one is good, the 2nd refined the combat so well that it's night and fucking day.

I'm going to say Hollow Knight, simply because of how tight it is. That, and the Scrooge McDuck pogo'ing is so much fun.

i've only played the first BS and not finished it yet, but, I enjoy it. It reminds me of Castlevania with how it plays. Though controls seem stiff at times to me.

for me is ether ones with rpg stats like SOTN or ones like blasphemous but i enjoy them all cuz i love the genre

I was going to say Dead Cells so...

Bloodstained's combat controls very similarly to Symphony of the Night. The two offshoot games in the Curse of the Moon duology control like Castlevania 3. Neither of those is everyone's cup of tea, but I didn't mind the controls, myself.

As someone who played and beat it, I second this. Still need to try out the dlc.

Frontier hunter: erza's wheel of fortune's gameplay is pretty fun.

It plays a little simiar to the older metroidvania indie game dust: an elysian tail with the combos, but it has command input moves you can learn with the weapon types each character can use. (The game has 3 characters.) If you don't care about spoilers here is me fighting the first boss:

There is also another recent one called awaken - astral blade that is more on the dust: an elysian tail combo side.

Yeah Ori improved its combat so much with the sequel. I loved the boss fights in the game especially, both for thematic and gameplay reasons.

There was also strider (2014). I remember really liking this one.

I really like Afterimage. The combat is smooth, but every weapon type behaves very differently, and there's a learning curve with some of them, such as whips.
