If I wanted to be a plagiarist I could do a better job myself.

It's funny cause you actually can't, both because you're you and because you're not a computer.

Honestly, I think it really depends on how you use AI. Personally, Id definitely use it as a tool to help with school, but not to do the work for me. For example, if I didnt understand something in class or had trouble with a specific topic, Id use AI to explain it in a different way or break it down further. Sometimes, hearing the same thing from a different perspective can make all the difference. Its kind of like having a tutor whos available 24/7, which is pretty amazing, especially when youre working on assignments late at night or need extra help outside of class.
That said, I wouldnt use AI to just give me answers to my homework or assignments. I think thats a slippery slope. Sure, you could get an answer, but if you dont understand how to get to that answer on your own, youre not really learning anything. The point of school is to actually learn and grow, and using AI just to shortcut that process seems like it would hurt in the long run. I feel like it would be way more beneficial to use AI for things like brainstorming ideas, organizing your notes, or even reviewing things youve already learned, rather than just copying and pasting answers.
On top of that, I think AI could be super helpful with other school-related tasks too, like staying organized or managing deadlines. I mean, its like having a personal assistant to remind you of important dates or even help you improve your writing. For instance, Id use it to check my grammar or make my essays sound better, but the actual ideas and work would still come from me. If used properly, AI could make school a lot easier, but its important not to let it take over or replace the effort youre supposed to put in yourself. Its all about balance, I guess.

I just didn't feel like trying too hard for the guy with the 2/10 insult.

It's a tool. Use it.

We were told not to use Wikipedia, calculators, and internet sources, because it was considered unrealistic, and look how that turned out.

I used it to define engineering terms, build a resume and cover letter but I'd never use it for essays. Those are piss easy to write, why would I risk getting caught?

Yes, with the understand that "help" can mean a lot of things.

Like example, you could use AI to create practice questions, or a study schedule, or questions to ask professor/tutor or key topics to look up.

AI is more than a plagiarism machine.
