Ah, haha. My bad, Ive had a whole thing with my PC in trying to hook up music equipment that necessitates a whole 9 like in yer situation. Its a complete headache.. guaranteed that I get a BSOD requiring me to install a fresh version of Windows that has me delete absolutely everything pretty much every month -_-

The fact that the drivers for that musical equipment get outdated so quickly and isnt really supported and the fact that Windows already doesnt handle audio that well sometimes (at least, compared to a Mac) makes me want to chuck the thing out the window..

Go to Start , then select Settings > Accessibility > Keyboard, and turn on the On-Screen Keyboard toggle.

This is a keyboard that can be used to move around the screen and enter text will appear on the screen.

The keyboard will remain there until you close it.

See if the same character output weirdness occurs with that.

Meanwhile, @aetherspoon will somehow problem solve this with his 180 IQ computer goodness.

Would you be able to use your phone to type into Windows? Maybe Im just fussy.. but Id think clicking an on-screen keyboard would drive me nuts lol

Try a program like keytweak, it lets you force remap a key to any other key. Should be able to undo whatever went wrong unless the issue is something else entirely.

There's one more thing you can try before replacing your motherboard. Get a wireless BLUETOOTH keyboard not one that uses a dongle. Bluetooth goes through a different physical path on your motherboard than the external USB ports.

I would personally buy a whole new computer rather than go through the trouble of replacing a motherboard.

Sucks but at least you'll have to buy before dose tariffs make computer stuff more expensive (CE claims, iunno tbh)

There's SATA versions of that stuff that go where optical bays used to go. It'll be easier to install one of those.

google told me to do this:

• Go to your computer's "Control Panel" > "Ease of Access" > "Keyboard".
• Look for the "Filter Keys" option and ensure it is turned off.

You could try using your phone as a bluetooth/wifi keyboard instead of spending more money, even if only to see if it works first. I use remote mouse, which will allow you to use your phone as a keyboard within its free component.

Have you tried keytweak, though? Just because a & f are both seemingly mapped to produce f doesn't necessarily mean that they're not recognised as different inputs.

Well hey at least it is fixed. That had to be really frustrating and at least you don't have to do something drastic and spend a bunch of money.

It sounds like it may be a USB issue rather than a mapping issue. If that is the case I see two options:

Option 1: You could try uninstalling and reinstalling your USB drivers, which may or may not cause some undesired issues with other devices using USB (more than likely won't, but disclaimer just in case).
Option 2: Invest in a bluetooth keyboard.

Edit: Nevermind. I just saw your post and that you've resolved the issue.

Maybe when you switched those before, you were still trying other solutions like changing keyboard languages and stuff and it 'corrected' a different key to a different output than intended? I dunno. Just a guess.

On screen keyboard is probably 'hardcoded' to not be editable, in case something like this happens, that seems sensible. Maybe bluetooth phone just copies whatver settings your phone has? Just speculating.

This one happens to me sometimes, JPGs start saving as JFIF. IDK if it's the same as the keyboard problem, but I've fixed it 10 times with this video
