If Mice infest a house from an outdoor entry point does the tenant or landlord pay for the extermination and cleaning?

What if the tenant accidentally let the mice in?

Its the mice; they have to pay rent. Don't let them pay in cheese, they often try that.

Landlord should pay unless it is clear negligence on the part of the tenant that caused it

If you make a maintenance request for damage to the exterior of the house and they refuse to fix it, then theyre responsible. If you leave your doors open, youre responsible.

I'm sure the specifics depend on the state, but generally speaking landlords have a duty to provide a safe and habitable living space. Pest control falls under that. If you're in this situation don't let a slum lord try to stick you with the exterminator bill.
