Focusing on 2028 is a losing strategy. It's more important to focus on mid-terms (2026), if they happen, and any local elections between now and mid-terms. It's important to build up protections against project 2025 locally.

The GOP got incredibly lucky with Trump; I can't think of anyone else who can match him for being able to attract attention and votes. Even people like Cruz or DeSantis, every time they try to step up a rung, something happens which knocks them back down.

Possibly. Although whoever he decides to nominates will likely get a pretty decent start, unless he can break the rules and go for a third term lmao.

It's hard to say, and really is going to be heavily dependent on who the Republicans decide to run for 2028.

Obviously Vance is front runner, but he's got the big problem of not being Trump, and I'm honestly curious to see if Trumpers will vote for Vance as Trump-lite, or if their turn out is going to be significantly less come 2028 when Trump is no longer on the ballot.

I'm still of the mind myself that Desantis is going to make another attempt to take position for the 2028 election, but I wouldn't at all be surprised if the Republican party picks Vance. I also won't be surprised at all if Vance loses in an absolute landslide because "He's not Trump".

But I dunno - I'm terrible at betting and odds, and I don't really make predictions so who the hell knows, but if I had to make a bet, it'd either be Vance or Desantis, and I have a feeling they're going to struggle much harder to get the Trump-era voters to come out and vote simply because "he's not Trump".

The Republican party will most likely be dead when Trump leaves based on the amount of damage he's going to do .

Assuming Trump gets to crash the economy like he wants to, in the way he wants to, I do not believe republicans win 2028 at all even if he manages to talk himself into King for Life.

Worst case scenario is we -don't- get an economic crash and the republicans get to go "Hey look! It worked!", at which point they run whoever they want and we're done for *awhile* regardless of civic or legislative fuckery

I think Maga is starting to decouple from Trump. Anyone who carries that message can do well.
