I have a D500 and have been eyeing the D850, but it's $3000 and that's pretty much my entire budget for quite a long while.

If I sell the D500 I can recoup some of that, of course.

Idk a ton about specs on different cameras outside of my own, but a little googling gives me the impression that d850 is objectively better but maybe not when you are looking at upgrading from the 500

What are the benefits of the 850 that are driving you to consider it

aside from being a routine upgrade, which I can put off - it's the in-engine focus stacking and focus bracketing.

The secondary consideration is that my bro wants to get into photography so I can give/sell him my D500

I would say if your brother wants to get into it then that's definitely solid, get some change back on the 500 if you want,

I hear abandoned railroads give nice photos. I dont really remember why, I wondered about a local one in town. I wondered where it led and I googled it. And gave a site that was just that. Lists and discussions on them. I saw another that i knew its origin and followed it was counties over. It had lots of photos

A froend of mine recently started takkng all these really close up photos of things. Might be agood way to break up things if you cant find anything to shoot.

Like the vein patterns in leaves, weird roots, that kind of shit.

I love macro photography, I don't have a great lens for it right now but you are completely right about there being tons of potential for cool shots out of almost any subject

I'm going to have a whole day out tomorrow, I'm currently between jobs, had enough money that I'm not super stressed for this month or so, so I spend days job searching, helping at home, and trying not to fall into anxiety mess and get stuck doing nothing

Tldr I'm gunna get out, maybe go see a movie, and follow it up with photography somewhere
