It started off well but then that speech took like 70 chapters with every other bit repeated over and over and it didn't reveal anything.

Also on team post timeskip is mediocre. Whole Cake was the best of it, but that was more about what was around it (and to be clear that's for manga only, I know Whole Cake got incredibly shafted by the anime production).

All the revelation stuff in the backend of Egghead is INCREDIBLE, but I cannot stress enough how much I did not care about anything prior to that recording starting.

This arc has potential, though!

Kind of funny that you guys have completely opposite opinions on Egghead.

I loved Dressrosa and Whole Cake and really liked Wano and Egghead. Zou was also a fun little arc with some great reveals. (I am also talking primarily manga.)

Dressrosa is where I REALLY starts to turn. That was like....unbearable for me.

I literally constantly forget Zou even happened.

Dressrosa is the one that needs the next special edited version like Fishman Island is getting right now

The Hot Cold Island thing is like Zou, too. That was an arc that happened?

To be completely honest, I kind of feel like that about Fishman, too! Don't remember a damn thing other than Drugs.

binged the SG0 anime and I loved it so much. They really did a great job threading the different paths together into a cohesive structure, though I still get the "play VN beforehand" reco because most of my favourite segments from the VN were reduced or didn't make their way into the anime at all, which again makes sense. And then the anime expanded upon story beats that were a blip in the VN which was pretty satisfying.

on the plus side this demotivated me to buying/playing the original S;G VN. On the downside I feel compelled to rewatch the original anime so I'm probably gonna do that, lol

not like I don't have a gajillion shows in the backlog to watch, and I still haven't watched Frieren yet either (sorry Bane!! it'll surely happen in Q1 2025!!!)

May as well wait for the new version of the S;G VN anyways.

It's bad!

There's a lot of good stuff in the original Steins;Gate VN that isn't in the anime. It's quite a bit funnier, Daru's a much better character, and you get the mini character routes, a couple of which are quite good. Plus the music's vastly superior, and the art's much better.

Depends on your definition of "Recent", lol.

The only new high profile VN I've played is Anonymous;Code and it's not worth it.

That said, Type Moon VNs have been getting rereleases pretty consistently over the last yearish.

But if by recent you mean, like, 5 years....House in Fata Morgana. Umineko translation got finished, too....was that 3 years ago?

Slay the Princess was pretty good, although less impactful if you've played others VNs

Tyrion Cuthbert was better than half the Ace Attorney series

Oh, Mouthwashing is kind of like a VN! So is 1000xResist. I mean there's a lot of walking but other than that they're really just stories.

And yes, Slay the Princess is a good time if maybe not as much of a VN vibe....despite literally being a VN. More of a choose your own adventure thing.

Ace Attorney Investigations Collection. Unless that's not considered VN.

Fata Morgana might have been the last VN I really really enjoyed and I'm pretty sure I played it like 8 years ago.

Ace Attorney and Umineko I didn't like too much. Umineko I will at least say the things I like about it I like a lot, but the package as a whole never clicked.

Slay the Princess looks interesting, at least.

Tsukihime Remake is good and new.

Witch on the Holy Night likewise. This and Tsukihime Remake are by far the prettiest VNs I've played.

Played through Jack Jeanne last December which was alright. Rhythm game VN, kinda like Symphonic Rain in that respect. Didn't love it though. Very long.

Mouthwashing and 1000xResist are definitely not VNs but I would've liked them a lot more if they were! As is, I liked everything I posted about way more.

Haha, I'm just saying the anime's good. The VN's good too! One of those nice examples where both are great.

I think I'm done after one season. It was fun and interesting at first but the gags and lack of development was already getting old by the end and it sounds like that won't change. And the weird sport/martial art hybrids were just so strange and random.

New Sound Euphonium release is finally in my hands.

I did not do the dub for the movie, so gonna give the new dub a whirl here once I start. I am certain I'll stick with it for the whole thing since I can't imagine it will be bad, but not getting Tomoyo Kurosawa for any reason still feels bad lol.

It's very strange to me this release a week and a half ago and I have not seen a human being talk about it since!!

Dandadan finished.

Honestly don't mind at all that they end at a completely random point, rather than just making it seem like a finale when the point they're at has no finale energy. Sure it's wierd now, but better in the long run when it picks back up later. If it's future was uncertain, sure!

That means fall is over, at least for me. Time to go back over my list and see how it shakes out.

Dandadan was fine. It had that crazy energy and the characters and banter were great. I find the weirdness exhausting in that FLCL kind of way. The fact they had Episode 7 in their back pocket is almost a bait and switch. I think most of the fights or weird shit and hypersexual stuff wore a bit thin for me. When the characters were just dicking around at school or dealing with Sexy or Turbo Grandma, I felt happy again.

Hopefully they have more Episode 7s waiting in places.

Finishing up some Fall animes:

Acro Trip was pretty blah. Moderately funny at times and had a good protagonist in Chizuko, but the humor was more miss than hit, Chizuko got less focus than Chrome (who I don't like nearly as much, the animation sucked, and it ended in a pretty bad point. It's too bad when an anime adapts a finished manga and still isn't complete.

How I Attended an All-Guy's Mixer was just okay. Pretty slowly progressing trio of romances, and it focused too much on the worst one (Hagi x Kohaku). The main couple somehow got the least focus, too. Asagi and Fuji got a good few focus episodes, which was nice, but eh. They didn't quite amaze. Humor was pretty repetitive too.

Ranma 1/2 was surprisingly excellent. The humor holds up, the little mini arcs are fun, and the characters are good (tho Ryoga annoys me, wish he got less screentime). Excellent animation, too. I never watched Ranma back in the day, and I gotta say, this was a way better remake for a newcomer than Urusei Yatsura!
