You can buy a coin sorting machine pretty cheap on Amazon. Just deposit your coins at the bank when you have a full roll of something.

I doubt I've had enough coins over the last 10-15 years to ever use one of these. To have coins I'd have to be paying for things in cash, which I never do

Everyone should be paying for gas with cash. Saves you like 5/6 cents per gallon.

Eh, half the places here don't offer cash discount. Those that do it's like 2c/gallon. On empty my car takes ~20 gallons, so 40c when I fill up 1-2x a month? We're talking <$10/year to go to a specific gas station, walk in, wait in line, pay, potentially go back in to get change, etc... I'd much rather pay the $10 yearly convenience fee to skip all that.

Depends on the gas station. Plenty of same price spots here.
I'm getting 4% back regardless which is usually greater than the CC markup.

More important thing around here is not going too close to the state line, because then they charge the out of state price to stop people from crossing over for gas.

These are fair. Here in Tejas the difference can be as large as 10 cents, so I always use cash. I also don't have a credits rewards card.

I don't really get the fixation on gas prices. It's one of those random things people decided matter absurdly incredibly much, when they just completely disregard much larger money sinks that are much more trivial.

Gas price goes down by ten cents--literally ten--per gallon and everyone loses their minds, as if that comes to more than $2 a tank. But then they also have subscriptions to eight streaming services and still spend all their time on YouTube anyway.

TD Bank still has the "penny arcade" in a lot of branches. I didn't know it's free though.

Most banks have a free machine for members to use. At least where I live here in Missouri both banks that Ive used have had one.

Never use Coinstars. Just go to your bank, many have a coin counter and they'll deposit directly into your bank account.

Walmart stopped that since Covid. I used to go in at 5 AM off the night shift to get some groceries. I would sleep at 7. But I have sleep problems during work nights.

I got to call and see why my UI card is declined.

This is such a weird thing to me. I just take my change can to my local bank and they have a machine that does it and there is absolutely no charge. With this being bumfuck nowhere in the middle of crop fields and cow pastures too Im glad that all of our local gas stations are no fee ATMs as well. I recently discovered that a lot of people dont have that.

Banks very often even give out free empty rolls (around here at least)

Yeah paying extra for convenience is an extremely common business model.

wish it was 10% because that is how they do it on transactions.

last time i gotten 80$ from saving up my spare change. it's going to be a long time before i can turn a gallon container in hopes of getting that much.

I love Coinstar. I am a coin collector, and every time I go to a store with one, I check the reject slot at the bottom to see what I can find. Oftentimes you find nothing or just grimey change. Other times you get regular coins that for whatever reason the machine didn't accept. You can get foreign coins, but the real draw for me is American silver coins, which the machine will reject, or historical coins, made of silver or not, which the machine will reject.

Two weeks ago I found an 1857 flying eagle penny out of one of these. The value is around 15-30 bucks, maybe. This doesn't happen often, but I did find it through a coin star. Why would this happen? People dislike coins and want them gone. To them, all they see is a grimey looking coin or whatever(important: or whatever) and if they even notice the machine rejected it at all, they probably figure "its just a grimey penny, who cares"

So yeah, folks, keep using them. To others: I don't care about giving out my secrets. Check the reject slots for goodies.

When I was a kid we compulsively would check the coin slots on pay phones, arcade machines, cigarette machines and a bunch of stuff that doesnt really exist anymore.

I havent seen one in years but if I came across a pay phone even now I think Id check the coin return haha.

This coin wasn't likely stolen from Gramps collection. Just people who dont notice or care in general, and especially when it looks like this.
