I 100% finished the Mario RPG remake (remaster?) in a single weekend.

I've had Paper Mario since release day and haven't bee able to finish it. I've been at the train chapter for like a month.

It's just not as fun.

PM TTYD is one of my favorite games ever.

Pls keep playing or Ill be UPSET.

I love the game, but I get it.
Sometimes I feel like it goes out of its way to be cumbersome.

Also, I beat the game on the GameCube like 17 years ago.

Yeah, I got to the train part and then dropped off.

Playing it for the first time in 20 years made me realize how much padding the game had. People kept talking about how bad the backtracking was in Chapter 4, but never about chapters 5 and 6, which was just as bad.

Ive been saying for years that PM1 is the better structured game. PM2 is amazing in many regard but the structure/pacing is a prominent flaw.

Oddly I'm the opposite. TTYD is in my top 10 games ever, and I thought RPG was atrocious lol. I never played the remake but I played the original long after it was released and it was just not fun.

TTYD has the reputation it does because it was like one of 5 JRPGs on the Gamecube. It was never all that good.

TTYD has very bad pacing. There are times when youre either running back and forth, just waiting to trigger an event, or just walking. The game is full of that.

And from what I remember the last chapter is just bactracking through all the previous chapters...

The new warp pipe room makes that part ridiculously short.

This. The gameplay updates are great, but I still prefer the original by quite a bit.

No, I will not answer questions regarding this fact.

the game has a lot of really annoying moments, seeming one annoying moment per chapter too

If I recall you just wrap up that area and then proceed to the door itself (door spoilers:) for a final dungeon. The dungeon is pretty long and has like 4 boss battles. So maybe a couple hours yet, assuming Im not forgetting something and no late game side questing.

Agreed, I've always held the opinion that it's mediocre. When I bought 20 years ago I was broke as a joke and had to force myself through it because that was all my game money for a bit.

Are you playing the remake? I heard they made the flow of the game slower, in regards to anything with menus and text boxes.

The rerelease actually fixes things by adding pipes to warp. So it's definitely not that.

I finished the game (GameCube version) not too long ago for the first time and loved it.

But to each their own.

Like, it's not a bad game. It just overstayed its welcome 6 hours ago I feel like.

It's all good, no need to justify your opinion :-)

I had a hard time finishing it as well. Way too many portions of the game consist of just walking back and forth between the same 2 or 3 screens over and over. The train chapter is like the epitome of this poor design, you just walk back and forth between the train cars for an hour and the chapter ends.

the last chapter is at least really good. cool boss fights and no annoying padding like in the rest of the game

no they're right. you can't skip through text as fast as in the original, which is really a baffling change for a remake of such a popular game

I liked all of them. I have th GCN one, I just never played it. Why would I buy a new one with this gamecube one is guaranteed to be better.

The partner wheel alone makes the remake better. Soooo much menu-ing for that.
