Lots of things. All the anti-mask, anti-vaxx stuff was stupid, so I was already teetering a bit. Thanks to Trump and Fox News I had to really fight with my dad to talk him into getting his third covid shot.

But the thing that really tipped me over was the election fraud nonsense. I had been convinced that Trump was a man of integrity, at least on some level, and would accept defeat with some dignity and respect for the process. Because that's what he used to say he would do. Laugh at me for my naive gullibility if you'd like, but I was lost in the propaganda pretty deep.

Then he lost, clearly lost, and began to throw a baby fit for a couple of months straight about how it was rigged, how he actually won, and he won the popular vote, too, and he won by millions

I was even, at the time, giving him the benefit of the doubt that maybe we should do a recount with extra care and consideration. But as a few recounts happened, and it became increasingly clear that there was no fraud and everything was pretty much as it was, I realized I was just watching a 70-something year old man whining about losing.

And then, Jan 6th happened, and that was pretty much the last straw. Even then, I stuck up for him a little bit, but after a couple of weeks of bullshit I finally decided he wasn't the man I had been convinced he was, and that I didn't really want him to be president anymore.

For a short time, I argued for the idea that he didn't directly cause the rioting, that he never told them to commit violence, etc.

But in hindsight, he had been whipping people into a frenzy for the previous few months regarding voter fraud and stolen elections, even before the election happened.

So, he definitely caused it. Whether he gave a direct order to storm the capital or not (and it is arguable enough to say that he did in fact do so), he did directly cause the frenzy, violence, and destruction that occurred there.

Honestly, Asmongold is a relic of what it was like to be a small minded white teen/20 year old in the 2000s, where all you did was read internet forums and play videogames and had zero life experience. You had strong opinions about everything but you had zero stake in any of it and you didn't truly care beyond winning an internet argument, and the only things that truly got you upset were around your immediate videogame interests.

I have to believe that sort of person is redeemable, because that was basically me until I got laid a few times. They just need to get a fucking life and sort their shit out.

If you replace "stake" with "agency" then this actually describes pretty much everyone. It doesn't matter what the individual peasant thinks they know about capitalism, socialism, communism, or anything else. Those things will exist regardless.

Hence why I don't vote anymore. On my ballot I write "which party will address wealth inequality, reduce unelected police power, abolish unwarranted criminal background checks, acknowledge that there are more people than jobs and work to fix that?" I know there isn't an answer, because no party considers these pro-peasantry points an issue. So I refuse to participate in the theater.

The very nature of your question was disingenuous. I'm not even going to engage with you unless you tone down the rhetoric and sarcasm quite a bit.

First off, it's not just a question of "Harris or Trump," as if there are only two positions to hold and nothing in between. So, immediately you're following the wrong train of thought. You also seem to think that "being in the middle" means having nothing but neutral opinions down the whole list.

What it actually means is that I have some opinions that lean right, and some opinions that lean left, and I prefer candidates without views that go to an extreme on either end. It is possible to be "soft" right or "soft" left. It's not a question of far-right vs. far-left as if that's the only choice you can make.

So, like I said, based on the way you asked your question, I don't think you understand how being in the middle of the political road works.

I also think he wants to handle it himself because that house and all those things mean something to him, and he wants to take care of it all on his own. The great mystery of CE is everyone thinking they have an understanding of mental health but its so obvious from their behaviour that most don't. Personal insults and harsh language are almost never necessary in these discussions but it's most people's immediate go to. Just tell yourself they're probably mad about something else and taking it out on you
