I'm envisioning bedlam. Chaos.

Of course they'll challenge the election results. There may be violence from the crazies.

But in the party itself, what do you think happens?

They'll talk about doing some deep introspection like after the 2012 election, then just double down on everything.

It depends how much they lose by. If it's only comparable to 2020 or closer, they'll just keep pretending everything's OK if they stay the course because they legitimately have no more path to washing themselves of Trump. If they get btfo like they deserve, I see mass panic and infighting.

small ruckus about the integrity of the election while they figure out how to move on from Trump who now is the party itself from the perspective of his voters.

The day after they'll file a million lawsuits to see what might stick to overturn the result.

If we survive to Jan 21st then maybe you'll see them disengage from Trump.

This.

Though it really depends on how bad he loses.

Close? They'll do the above.

Badly? Like 100,000+ in each lost state? Might distance even before Kamala's inauguration

You all better be right that he's going to lose. That's all I'm saying with topic titles like this.

As to answer the question:

We are going to have to hear months of loud, baseless fraud allegations. But they can yell them from the bench after America rejects Trump yet again.

A bunch of MAGA wannabes will then struggle to claim Trumps mantle as the most MAGA dipshit in all the land, but none of it will work because cults of personality dont usually go beyond the electoral retirement of that personality. So the GOP will have to change. The optimistic view is that they will take some steps to positively reform and become something more than a bad faith actor pretending to be a political party.

What will probably happen is those evil morons will double down and morph into something even worse than MAGA.

using the UK as an example they will hopefully split but then comes the new nightmare cuz in 2028 if DEM's don't build up their support correctly with the left the center right and so called ''moderate'' will screw them over with voting for the GOP cuz they got rid of the MAGA nuts and think they are now workable with the media pushing this like this

The GOP won't turn on Trump unless the base turns on Trump. They will complain about him privately but they will all remain the cowards they are and not say it publicly because if they do they will be declared a "RINO" and their grifting career is over. That's what happens when your entire party is nothing but scum and villainy.

Because they're (GOP) not in power this time. They fuck around, they'll find out for real this time.

Not saying it was a fluke last time, but it was the equivalent of one that the President, whether intentionally or through sheer fucking incompetence, refused or was incapable of making the decision to send in reinforcements to quell the attempt.

Lots of rabble rousing from Trump and his sycophants, lawsuits and attempts to circumvent the election results. The right wing media will be more careful and measured to avoid lawsuits though. I don't anticipate them trying to storm the gates again because Biden will have made preparations to cut that off.

My concern is domestic terror acts by deluded Trumpkins. Any Democrat lead states should probably have their State Capitals on alert, I could see them trying to January 6th a State Capital to prove some point.

I see it the same way and this is why I think there's not going to be some mass rejection of Trump by the party if he loses. The portion of the base who are still all-in for Trump even after January 6, after multiple felony convictions, and after he already lost once are not going to abandon him if he loses again. That means most Republican politicians can't abandon him either because if they do they're likely to get primaried and replaced with some MAGA nutjob.

I think the party fractures into in-fighting over the future of the party.

Nobody outside of Trump wields that level of influence and he's not making it to 2028, at least mentally.

He's actually legitimately cooked.

Nope , I refuse to get over confident. I'm so anxious that if I say too much happy things and start believing my own hype, I worry I will jynx it all.

Okay my Miracle Dream is that I wish the GOP would get a sweeping defeat so it sends a message that America will not tolerate their hateful rhetoric nor will it tolerate their Project 2025 Path towards facism. Like Florida or Texas going blue kind of defeat, ya know, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

In that situation, I don't even know how they would react, It would be something crazy that's for sure.

Yeah, I agree. I was just talking in terms of how they (publicly) regard Trump. If Trump is alive and decides he wants to run in 2028 he will be the nominee even if he has to be wheeled out to the stage at the convention.

In-fighting within the party is already happening. All the drama over electing a Speaker of the House (twice) was basically the result of a turf war between MAGA Republicans and establishment Republicans. Stuff like that is going to keep happening and probably going to get uglier.

Yeah, the party is going to fracture into warring tribes. If Dems are competent they'll eat hard and establish long connections with young voters as a party of stability vs chaos.

I wish the Dems would call out the culture war nonsense. "We're running on real issues, Cancun Cruz is running on fear of a single digit minority (trans people). Cancun Cruz doesn't want us to be the home of the Brave, but home of the afraid!"

That's not what happened. After the 2012 loss, there were two camps in the GOP: Those (like IIRC Karl Rove) who blamed it on the GOP's failure to appeal to minorities, and those (like Newt Gingrich) who blamed the GOP for choosing candidates and policies that "were not sufficiently conservative." IIRC Ann Coulter was part of both bases.
The former camp actually did try to reach out to minorities after 2012. This resulted in significant backlash because reaching out to Muslims and gays alienated their core base and also pissed off the latter camp.
In the end, the GOP discovered that doubling down on bigotry and fearmongering worked far better than trying to make the party more inclusive. Then in 2016, Trump's election win validated the Gingrich types.

It won't be exclusive to the Dems. Remember that they still haven't caught the guy who left pipe bombs at both the DNC and RNC headquarters on Jan 6th. There is a conspiracy theory among the Trumpist voters that the GOP is sabotaging Trump, and that most only pretend to support him because "they're part of the swamp" Even Mike Johnson is considered to be one of them on Free Republic.

they'll find the next person to latch onto who they think will win them an election. doesn't matter what their policies are, just how many votes they expect them to get.

because policy doesn't mean anything to them i could see them trying to prop up a tucker carlson or something.
