The trial was continued and I'm leaving the courthouse two hours after getting there, no longer a juror for this case.

Pretty mixed feelings about this.

That fucking sucks and is a shitty ass system. Last time I got a summons all I had to do was call a number the night before and it told me if I'd need to show up or not.

One silver lining is that it was a federal case, so I'm automatically excused from duty at any lesser court for the next two years.

It took literally ten minutes for the person in front of me with the Newsmax bumper sticker to figure out how to leave the parking structure.

That tracks.

Probably the better outcome, though. If you had been chosen to serve, wouldn't you have to go back? And I'd bet they wouldn't pay for a hotel for you, so that would be your own cost to either get a hotel or drive back and forth?

Im 48 and have had to appear in court once for possible jury selection. It was a murder case and they took 2 days selecting jury. I sat in the back and read a book the whole time and never got called. After 2 days they dismissed us.

That is the only time in my life Ive had to go to the courthouse. One other time, just last year I was in a possible pool and had to call a number every Monday after 1600 to see if I needed to report. Had to do that for a month but I never had to go to the courthouse so it ended up being nothing.

Those two times are the only times Ive ever been in a pool and only once I actually had to go to the courthouse.

They covered the hotel, otherwise I'd get $211 for lodging and food plus a $50 per diem and 0.67 cents per mile.

So I'll get a check in a few weeks.

But you're in Texas. I figured they just auto guilty everyone then flip a coin in if they send them to the chair.

That seems pretty far.

I did 5 days on a regular jury duty once. Got home from it on Friday and checked the mail to find a federal jury summons. Luckily the state service made me exempt from federal service

You can ignore jury summons, they are not certified mail, they can't prove you received it.

2 years ago I got a summons in the mail on a Wednesday. The court day was the past Monday because I had just moved and it took 2 weeks to arrive lol.

Luckily I got out of it when I called.
