On one hand the cards seem cool. On the other...not a fan of the setting. Feels out of place....not like the story has mattered for quite a while now anyway. But sucks that each world now just seems designed with marketing chasing any trends within the young people. This is pretty much stranger things.

Its the new set coming out. Its like, 80s horror movie based and seems pretty cool, but also wildly out there.

Though the last few sets have sort of just felt like making stuff up. I'm not really big into the lore, but I can see how the big climactic "everyone is involved" stuff flopping, and then these sets kind of just coming off as set dressing can feel disappointing.

I also pre-ordered all the commander decks, I'm pretty excited for it.

And now that I look at the cards on Mythic Spoiler, this doesn't seem that interesting to me, even it does have a few of the traits I've always liked (lots of enchantments, creatures with high mono-color costs, etc.). It feels like Innistrad did this horror angle way, way better.

The setting sounds cool, but I can't afford to play the game anymore.

I got back into it briefly to draft Bloomburrow and make a cube out of it. Now I'm dipping back out because I hate the aesthetic they're going for with Duskmorn, and the mechanics they've spoiled so far do not interest me.

Not only am I actively disinterested in Duskmorn, standard looks like an absolute shitshow of either 3-turn-kill aggro decks, or "disrupt your opponent's hand/board so hard that they don't get to play at all". Modern is permanently trash after WotC decided they want to cash in on it with the Modern Horizons sets. Commander is only fun if you find a group of friends who all want to play at the same power level.

I'll give the Tarkir set a try in draft next year, and I'll closely watch the Final Fantasy set to see how much money I'm going to burn on it.

Last time I played was like 14 years ago. I forgot the last expansion I played, I think it was rise of the eldrazi or something like that

yeah I feel like most of the formats sort of suck atm

I still like the concept of the game a lot and I follow what cards come out because I'm curious where the game goes but I have very little interest in actually playing it

Same. I think the design of the game is pretty interesting. Playing it is a bit of a chore though, and imo that's primarily because: 1) WotC and Hasbro have been leaning harder into the gachapon aspects of MtG; 2) MtG addicts are generally insufferable with how far they take competition.

I don't think this is being totally fair, since like if you're going to tournament events (even small ones at stores or whatever) or you're playing ranked ladder on arena or etc it's sort of expected people would be playing the best stuff trying to win. or at the very least picking one of the top 2-3 decks that best fits their preferences and style

I've played so much MtG in the past. and more recently, I've tried a variety of misc TCGs but none of them really compare at all to MtG for me. the general flow of a game, the amount of design space they have making cards, the inherent game rules are all just too good to beat (well except lands, lands sort of suck)

The draft format looks pretty good. So I reinstalled Arena yesterday. I had a lot of the Rack deck from last time, so I've been grinding for gold. We'll see if I can stay interested for two weeks, though.

But mostly, I just wanted to post this guy. I've been laughing for days.

Yep (oops, not quite. "Spell" doesn't exist. You get one for Instant and another for Sorcery). Maxes out at 8 in standard and 9 where you can find a Tribal.

The card types are artifact, battle, conspiracy, creature, dungeon, enchantment, instant, kindred, land, phenomenon, plane, planeswalker, scheme, sorcery, and vanguard.

From the Fandom (I know, ew) wiki. Several of these don't apply in certain formats though.

Plus a couple weird ones that shouldn't be relevant. Conspiracy, Dungeon, Plane, Phenomenon, Scheme, Vanguard. Those only come up in variants and can never be in a graveyard.

I like the setting a lot, but I'm not a fan of the mechanics. I'll grab some singles and that's it.

I recognize, like, maybe half of those.

Game's gotten complicated while I wasn't paying attention.

Planeswalker

They've definitely kicked it up a couple notches. Battles are brand new. They've only been in one set so far. Planeswalker and Kindred both officially debuted in Lorwyn in 2007. The others were all there from the beginning, along with Interrupt (deprecated in Sixth Edition in 1999). And Mana Source came and went from 1996 to 1998 (and pretty much only exists on Dark Rituals from the time)
