Despite loving KH 2, and replaying the game countless of times even with the Tron world, I've never actually seen the movie. I didn't even know of its existence when kh2 first came out. And I've seen almost every disney movie. Since it's technically a disney movie think I'm gonna check it out on disneyplus.

Didn't know it had jeff bridges!

Oh, you're right. I haven't actually seen it so I assumed it was just a remake.

I like the original movie but I definitely agree the story is thin. It's mostly notable for the visual style and effects being pretty incredible for the time.

Apparently, the movie made $50 million on a $17 million budget, so it wasn't a bomb. It wasn't anywhere near enough of a success to pull Disney out of the dire straits the company was stuck in at the time (that wouldn't happen for about seven years, with the release of The Little Mermaid and the start of the Disney Renaissance; the start of their television animation division a few years before then and shows like DuckTales also helped keep them afloat), but Tron did make money.

And when I finally watched the original, I learned that its intensely boring. ):

Lol. It was an interesting decision for Japanese Square Enix to have chosen this random Disney property as a feature world in KH 2. Oh for video games it makes sense, but I still would have liked to be the fly on the wall in that meeting room. They must have scoured the archives for that kinda movie and someone go "hey, what if we did this incredibly old 80s movie no one has heard of?"

Oh I thought you were talking about that horrible Tron game that came out when Tron 2 was released.

That was hot garbage. How do you make being a Tron character boring?

I thought it was pretty boring back then, despite loving the world in KH2.

I saw Tron Legacy in theaters and thought it was okay.

Michael Sheen was actually my favorite part of that movie. Jeff Bridges was playing a very muted, understated character to contrast with his other character, Clu.

And Olivia Wilde well she was hot but man she is a dud.

Olivia Wilde was great as Thirteen in House, so maybe she just had bad directing in the Tron movie? How was the acting of the other characters?

Back when I was in college, a good friend of mine didnt graduate on time because he was short like $10 on his final tuition payment. If hed asked anyone for it, we gladly woulda helped him, but he was too proud to ask for help.

He also had bought Tron on DVD earlier that year. So the joke eventually became You decided to buy Tron instead of graduate.

No it wasn't. Tron was still plenty popular on its own, even back in the early 2000s, and I even remember some people hoping it got a world in KH2. Then seeing people pretty happy when it was actually announced.

It was otherwise fine.

Bridges for example played a kind of zenned out Kevin Flynn who had been living in isolation for thirty years and acted like that. As well as Clu the villain using that deaging technology; that character was aggressive and dominant.

The main character was kind of a nobody but he did a good job.

Michael Sheen killed it.

And Olivia Wilde acted like she was a robot that had its CPU whacked with a stick.

Yeah. Same exact performance, except skintight Tron outfit and a page haircut.

I'm glad there are others in the same boat who never watched the movie. I'm checking it out now and I gotta say I'm really impressed with the visuals. I love how the 80s and 90s portrayed "cyberspace" it's so psychedelic and colorful.

The one thing I did know about this movie courtesy of wikipedia years ago was that apparently the animators had to color in each individual cel to make the Tron colors and it was a painstaking process that took like, a hundred billion hours.

i was taught animation by one of the guys who worked on small parts of that movie, they would tell stories of coloring cels. they surely didn't praise the process. tron's a pretty big movie in the digital art/animation/movie creation world, but yeah it did poorly at the box office.

i hadn't seen it until i was older, but i knew about it since i was a kid. i just never used to watch "old movies". i actually enjoy og TRON now, way more than the newer thing.

Legacy is amazing and the soundtrack slaps.

You know what, the movie is... not bad.

Visually, it's stunning. I really enjoyed looking at the film.

Story is a bit nonsensical. Story premise is simple enough, guy invented thing and other guy stole credit for it. How they got to the end and the whole Tron world in the middle was just a bunch of terminology that Disney forgot to explain. They needed a character who the other characters could spout exposition to.

As someone who replayed KH 2 hundreds of times, throughout the movie I was doing this:
