I played the demo for about 6 minutes. I love the series, but the controls were so stiff and unfun, I did 2 battles and un-installed.

Completely killed my hype for it. Those controls need a major rework.

I watched a 5 minute preview with gameplay about a week ago. Looks solid enough for me. Im always happy to see nice bright, saturated color palettes in my jrpgs. Looks like Ill have a decent time with it.

still would like a source on the claim the game is not good

like is this from reviews or something

i mean i never had much faith in it as it seems to be just the cliche "sword guy protects tree woman" mana plot

There's a demo go play it for yourself and judge it on your own criteria

I played a lot of the of Mana remasters, and honestly... I dunno why this series needs to still exist. I think this has got to be in the long line of things Squeenix claimed they regret they've been funding.

Squeenix has like maybe 3 good studios, the DQ one, the one that made Triangle Strategy, and arguably the FF crew since their games still sell. All the rest are pretty hot trash honestly. I tried a few trying to bank my hopes on the Squeenix name and thought them mediocre at best every time. Their name means nothing anymore

of Mana series as of this moment is like a really bland action RPG. Except Action RPGs now have to contend with the patterns set by MH and Souls. You can't just make hack n' slash RPGs anymore. Even Tales of Arise started to have pretty angry main story bosses with cool patterns that demand you perfect dodge, though I guess their hard and above difficulties have always had bosses with ridiculous inflated stats.

Just played Visions demo and this will be very good I think. Basically it feels like an actual modern sequel to the Trials of Mana remake which felt like a PS2 game in all good ways.

Although the walk/run animation that goes a little too long whenever you step. I literally just played Trials of Mana, so maybe so used to very precision movement like a PS2 platformer game basically. Visions has a more modern feeling with physics.

But anyways, yeah I don't see the hate. If you like Trials then Visions seems likely too.

I hear this and I played both. I don't understand why anybody would say this. Berseria's dot garbage system was so limiting and suffocating for most of the game, and the boss designs were really bad until maybe the last 1/5 of the game. The story was also so edgy, it made me blush, which didn't help.

I mean Tales technically peaked in terms of battle system at Graces F tbf, but I do think Arise was up there. I just want like specific reasons. Arise never really messed too much with resources being a problem even though it brought MP back. Alphen's HP sacrifice was a good risk vs reward strat that was extremely high DPS, and thematically it also made Shionne almost a pre-req to use with him on the field, which is a type of synergy that I think is missing from a lot of other Tales.

Even Trials of Mana had some... pinache to it.

This one just, I dunno. They spent too much time conceptualizing the open world I think. And it pitfalls like every single open world game. It disengages with the gameplay loop and leaves you with whatever mediocre game feel is just there.

Maybe Visions of Mana feels better on PS5 because it should at least not fucking chug and stutter all the time on that than on PS4. Star Ocean 6 was the same, it felt like it could barely run on PS4 and had framerate dips on PS5. But man Star Ocean 6 looks nice.

berseria is a deconstruction of the edgy anti hero story

and i had far more fun controlling velvet than anything in arise offered when swarms of enemies start coming at you its just fun to fight the hordes

arises story is just BORING a bog standard fight the evil empire jrpg with nothing creative about it

the cast of arise is just so forgettable even fans of the game never talk about them

as for the diffiuclty i could not possibly care less about that

I don't know if we can trust Famitsu ever since they relaxed scoring standards around two decades ago. A 34 is pretty low given the kinds of scores they give since then. I wish so hard for this to be a great game because I want the series to thrive, but I've been used to disappointment from this series, with the only standout game to me being Trials and its remake. Legend of Mana gets praise too, but it wasn't my cup of tea at the time. I should really give it another go.

I played the demo and did not enjoy it alI. I also feel like I was not patient enough, but the combat felt weightless and I had no reason to care about any of these characters or had any introduction to them either. Or the story. I'd like this game to actually do well enough, because the Mana series had its uhh moment. But Trials of Mana Remake wowed me more so I just bought that on sale instead for 20 right after I played the Visions demo.

I was just playing it as Angela and my party is Duran and Kevin and damn are they stupid for certain bosses, I left them dead until I whittled down these guys, but Trials still just feels so much better. *shrugs*

Not especially. Framerate is iffy on graphics mode, and performance mode...well I ain't exactly Digital Foundry, but performance mode didn't feel great either. Could just be the gameplay itself feeling stiffer, idk.

I quite enjoyed the demo, I had framerate issues until I set the framerate to 60 fps from Unlimited, at that point it played pretty smooth though I definitely know plenty of people had stutters and the like even after making that adjustment.

I do think the Greatsword gameplay could use a hell of a lot of work but the protagonists 1 handed sword and lance gameplay were fine as were the other 2 characters, they seemed fun as well.

I wasn't getting stutters, I was playing it on the PS4 though but it didn't feel right at all. I played it for 15 minutes only. I never even made it to the town lol but it felt like my characters feet were never on the ground. So I was like okay I have to see how this Trials of Mana demo is, so I liked it and then just bought that two days later.

The action combat in Trails to Daybreak felt better imo. And that was just roll and two buttons. I'll repeat myself I'd like this game to do fine. But I just couldn't get into it then. I bet the world is likely good and maybe if I started from the beginning I'd have a reason to care more.
