Usually: - delegates hold a roll call vote on who the party's presidential nominee is - committees draft the party's policy platform for the year - a bunch of politicians give speeches The first isn't happening at the DNC this year because for silly reasons they already nominated Harris in a virtual roll call. While IIRC the second didn't happen at the RNC this year since the Trump campaign just drafted its own platform and plopped it on the GOP's desk without entertaining any discussion. ...
