Got a new laptop, and it has W11. Is there a reason that I can't just click an app when it shows up in the Search Bar? I have to click Open on the right, instead of just clicking the image. Is that a setting I can change? Are there any other obvious settings I should change that I don't realize the issue yet?

edit: you should disable as much of co-pilot as you can, remove it from your taskbar

disable "sleep" mode is something I would do. sleep mode is bad and it fucks a computer up in my experience. you can have the screen turn off, but realize this is not sleep mode. disable screensavers (obviously).

i like a link to the file explorer, command prompt, calculator, control panel on the taskbar.

I've never had issues. In fairness I've never tried clicking an app from the search bar; I usually hit enter to confirm it.

My only complaints about Windows 11 are the new right click menu being a bit awkward (not a total disaster, just suboptimal) and not being able to pin the taskbar to the left instead of the bottom. Both pretty minor really.

Hm, but when clicking the Search Bar and seeing the Recent apps, I can't click them or seem to get them to open at all, which worked with 10. Why did they just break this? I can remove them from the history, but what's the point?

Edit: Turning off Widget processes seems to work, but who knows what else that breaks.

Hmm. I just texted the "clicking from search button" and it seems to open for me when I click the App name or picture. Maybe it's certain apps? I tested with the Calculator app and Word.

It works now that I turned off the Widgets, why that would break it, I dunno. Its also possible its just a weird glitch, but its fine either way I suppose.

That's interesting. Sounds like some weird glitch. Widgets were turned off for me, but I turned them on and it still worked. So I'm curious if turning it off "fixed" it and if it'll work for you with it turned back on now.

Windows 11 is good

My PC starts a lot slower with it but other than that and the worse UI it's not much different

Theres a lot of stuff youve gotta download to have everything sorted, I forgot about that. I forgot 7zip wasnt a default app lol. Sure to be a lot of stuff I just forget until I need it. I also had to fix the right click menu, I shouldnt have to Show More Options to delete a file

Ill try and remember to check that out, just not up for it even though it would take all of 10 seconds.

Install ShutUp 10+, run it, click Actions > Apply Recommended Settings, then click Apply or whatever and reboot.

11 is basically 10 with a better UI in most areas and a context menu / Explorer padding worse or better depending on who you ask.

I think the extra padding in Explorer and the new context menu looks nicer personally but I dont like that the new context menu moved things and doesnt have all the options.

Most of the suck can be disabled, but one cannot expect grandpa and all the normies to figure it out.

You don't have to. You click the trash can icon at the top of the menu.

Win11 is definitely more suck than 10. Look into explorerpatcher for a look and feel more like 10.

Even Windows 10 sucks, so I don't doubt Windows 11 does as well. I legitimately want to go back to Windows 7.

My taskbar and desktop crash when I click file explorer on the taskbar and I have not figured out how to stop this from happening. If I right click file explorer and select a drive or folder from the menu it doesn't cause any problem, but just clicking it causes a crash. Also my desktop does not visually update new files until I force a crash via this method or restart the computer. Have tried every method to address this including restore points and updates, short of a complete fresh install of Win11, nothing has fixed it over the 3 or so months it has been happening, just worked around it.

I recommend anybody using a new install of Windows 11 to search Chris Titus Tech on YouTube and run his github loader to optimize your Windows install. Its basic service removes all telemetry gathering from your system so it's not constantly phoning home. My computer loads super fast without the extra telemetry bullshit loading. There's even an option to restore the old context menu instead of having to click the button on the bottom of the new context menu to show the old options.

I'm using a program called StartAllBack that allows customization to make Windows 11 feel a little more like Windows 7.
