On one side I see her as one of the clever ones, and being that lost about how to act and comfort others clashes with that, but on the other hand I think she's had to tune down her own emotional desires, wants and needs and that's what makes her so tone deaf. I think at that point she was just pissed off and lost her composure at her son.
